since launching in 2008, ASVOFF is described as not only a competition of short fashion, style + beauty films but also a travelling international event showcasing feature films, documentaries, conferences, performances + installations – making it a must-see on both the fashion calendar + the film circuit.
As a fashion film fest annually held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, with several satellite editions, including Rome, London, + Bilbao, it’s only natural for ASVOFF to have it’s first American satellite edition in New York. Co-hosted by French luxury conglomerate Kering + co-Presented with FIAF (French Institute Alliance Française), with the films of Bruce Weber, Mike Figgis, + Stuart Blumberg followed by a special tribute paid to Jerry Schatzberg’s 1970 cult pic “Puzzle of a Downfall Child” (below), starring Faye Dunaway as a former fashion model
on a downward spiral, this event is surely not to be missed.
Of the fashion films screening on March 14, there’s Weber’s doc about transgender models “Brothers, Sisters, Sons & Daughters,” from Barney’s Spring 2014 campaign (below),
Figgis’ ‘The 4 Dreams of Miss X’ (below) series of online shorts shot for lingerie house Agent Provocateur showcasing supermodel Kate Moss’s acting debut,
+ Blumberg’s super sexy lesbian divorce short “She Said, She Said,” with Marisa Tomei (below), for L.A.-based luxury wear company Co-Collections.
After the film screenings on March 14, you should stick around for a Q & A with Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas) + Jerry Schatzberg (Scarecrow, The Panic in Needle Park) moderated by Andrea Marcucci Founder and CEO of Maag Dretti “LAST LOOK”.
On March 15, the festival will end with a tribute + special screening of a restored print of Jerry Schatzberg’s 1970 cult pic “Puzzle of a Downfall Child” (below), starring Faye Dunaway as a former fashion model on a downward spiral followed by Q & A with Schatzberg.
The film screenings all start at 7:30pm + will take place at FIAF (French Institute Alliance Française) at Florence Gould Hall (55 East 59th Street between Madison + Park Avenues). But you better hurry + buy tickets here for March 14 + March 15, as I’m sure they’ll sell out quick.
