There’s no denying that when one sees that punch of color amongst the dark colors of Fall, all one can do is smile. But what better way to do that than with accessories, especially when there this cool. Enter the bags by Hong Kong label Matter Matters, inspired by Post Modernism, Art Deco, the school of Memphis + design recalling Bauhaus + Cubism, which is obvious from all the designs seen here.
Designer Flora Leung, a former graphic designer, believes the choice of forms + material are the essence of this first collection’s design. Designs that are also influenced by the colors of David Hockney + Edward Hopper, it’s no shock how the mix of bright + muted colors seem to pop the way they do. An added bonus of course, is the different shapes offered with their own unique touch.
This ‘Art Deco Clutch’ in seaform is a great example of taking Art Deco shapes yet with that contemporary sensibility. Just the same though, this design + color choice is timeless, like all of Leung’s designs.
This ‘Pythagoras Blue’ purse is all about Pop Art with its exaggerated clasp + bottom buttons. Of course, the bright yellow chain connected by brown leather is a great touch.
The ‘Shoulder Bucket Bag’ is just perfect in grey, with a cinching black belt near the top along with bright yellow chain strap combined with leather. Let’s just assume the bag is doing us a favor + mimicking our own waistlines.
