The venue where the Kenzo Pre-Fall 2014 runway show took place, should’ve given guests a hint of what was to come. Humberto Leon + Carol Lim chose to showcase their Pre-Fall 2014 collection at New York’s General Society of Mechanics + Tradesmen which played right in with their nod to Americana, especially the Northwest + functional looks.
Bitterly cold temperatures (polar vortex anyone?) is usually the biggest headache to tackle in the Northwest, which explained for all of the woolen blazers, parka coats + heavy wrap skirts, a silhouette that appeared throughout. Yet, when it came to ‘wrap’ anything, the blazers were my favorite, as seen in the last look (I might just try to recreate that for myself with a wool blazer + safety pins…wish me luck!). But amongst all of the wooly pieces, there were plenty of graphic prints including a pattern based on a series of motel doors + oversize checks that stemmed from a reflection of neon lights, seen on everything from jackets, boxy tops, pants + skirts.
