Roberto Cavalli Campaign Video For SS/15 Featuring Nicki Minaj

Check out Roberto Cavalli’s campaign video for SS15, starring Nicki Minaj who looks amazing with her dewy skin, nude makeup + wicked eyeliner flick.  Weighing heavily on a retro look, with multicolored shots, the one-minute clip features a sexy soundtrack with Nicki dressed in Cavalli’s latest creations.  Shot in Los Angeles by photographer Frencesco Carrozzini, seeing Nicki seduce with her slow + sensual moves, at times with the skirt in hand blowing in the air like a fluttering butterfly, you can’t deny how perfect she was for this.

On choosing Nicki, Roberto Cavalli said, ‘I chose Nicki Minaj because she embodies the exuberant + modern feminity of the Cavalli woman’, before giving a strong insight into the influences + inspirations behind the SS15 collection. ‘In recent years we’ve become accustomed to women castigated in clothes that hide their body shapes. With this campaign, I wanted to send a strong countertrend message.’

Enjoy!

Marginal With The Galliano Spirit

image

Anyone who was one of the lucky 100 invitees including Burberry’s Christopher Bailey, Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, Manolo Blahnik + Rifat Ozbek, to view Galliano’s comeback with his Maison Margiela’s Artisanal Couture Spring collection, was nothing but spellbound + yet, not at all surprised as Galliano is a true genius in making fantasy real + wearable.  With the Martin dropped from the house’s name, having been long gone, according to WWD, Galliano created a two-part production had models first file out in one direction, + return in part two wearing the toiles + experiments to realize this Artisanal collection, for everything from bird figurines, scraps of fabric + safety pins were repurposed.

With so many pieces harking back to his days at Dior, like a mermaid dress wrapped in ribbon, there were the other looks that stayed true to Margiela couture’s original mission of up cycling, from dresses fronted with 3-D faces made of lacquered seashells as a nod to to Giuseppe Arcimboldo paintings + raw canvas jackets trimmed with Matchbox cars.  Even a velvet gown wasn’t safe, with a whole army of toy soldiers charging across its shoulder.  There was even a strapless trapeze dress with what looked like a face created by using swatches of white fabric to form the eyes + red to form the lashes.

image

Immediately following the show, Margiela emailed show notes that read ’a process of discovery, returning to one’s roots: Piece by piece, deconstructing + constructing a new story for Margiela,’ + Galliano proved to be the perfect master storyteller.  Renzo Rosso who appointed Galliano to helm Margiela, after the show told WWD, “You have no idea what dreamers John and his team are and how much love goes into their work,” Rosso told WWD after the show, ‘We are so excited and happy. This is a very big moment for John + for Margiela. I saw some of the pieces in the studio beforehand, + we talked about them – but I never interfere. John is totally free. What you saw today was Margiela with the Galliano spirit.’

After the show, Anna Wintour told WWD, ‘It was brilliant.  What I loved was the mix: There was so much that we know + we love about John, but then he took the Margiela vocabulary + translated it in such an appealing + innovative way. I loved seeing all the toiles at the end where you can see all the work + the new embroidery.’  Burberry’s Christopher Bailey said, ‘It was so surreal — this is the first show I have ever seen.  I do shows, but I don’t go to them. It was just extraordinary. I wanted to keep pressing the pause button, to study, look closer at, play with + enjoy the clothes. It was just what I had hoped for – and more.’  In other words, John is back!

Leeloo From Film ‘The Fifth Element’ Inspires Cushnie et Ochs Pre-Fall 2015 Collection

image

image

For the Cushnie et Ochs  Pre-Fall 2015 collection, designers Carly Cushnie + Michelle Ochs found inspiration in both Leeloo from film ‘The Fifth Element +  their personal boarding school experiences.  But it wasn’t until the designers asked themselves, ‘What would Leeloo from ‘The Fifth Element’ wear if she were a boarding school coed?’, that paved the way for their Pre-Fall collection to emerge.

image

Bandage + cutout details throughout collection, captures Leeloo’s edge from Luc Besson’s 1997 ‘The Fifth Element.  Then the more tailored pieces appeals to the rigidity of a boring boarding school uniform.

How To RIOT In Spring

image

image

Considered ‘an uproar of excess that channels the anarchic energy of our times’, Harvey Santos‘ ‘Riot’ SS/15 hat collection is full of color, whimsy + interesting details.  Hand made hats + headpieces for women + men, a lot of them include signature + printed patterns, flower paillettes, crystals, glass + feathers in rambunctious colors.

image

Take this ‘Billie’ unisex flat cap (above), with an interesting brim made of two triangular shapes, made of hand printed cotton + cotton needlecord.  Then there’s the ‘Lootie’ (above) a shopping cart headpiece, made of stainless steel, goose feathers, acetate flower paillettes + crystal.

image

‘Jill’, the wing headpiece (above) is so beautiful with its goose quills + goose coquilles in a rainbow of colors, assembled to mimic different wing motions, frozen in place.  But my favorite has to be the ‘Kuh’ hat below.  A silk draped coolie with goose quills, silk organza + straw, this ‘Kuh’ hat with its interesting silhouette, is both sexy + delicate.
