Vermeer Makes A Rare Appearance In The Twenty First Century

As soon as I saw Dutch photographer Hendrik Kerstens photos of his daughter Paula, I immediately thought of Johannes Vermeer’s famous

“Girl With The Pearl Earring’ (also a movie, by the same name, starring Scarlett Johannson) above.  To be able to capture the light in photography as in this painting + others, of the Seventeenth century, is definitely not an easy task, yet Hendrik masters it beautifully.  Better yet are the modern props used to portray Seventeenth century headdresses including, toilet paper rolls with paper, a towel + paper doilies, – My favorite is the plastic shopping bag.
