What’s The Name Of Carine Roitfeld’s New Magazine?

CR Fashion Book Of Course, But That Guess Would’ve Been Too Easy

Due out in September, Carine Roitfeld’s huge secret of what her new magazine was going to be called is finally out.  After ending all of her editor letters with a handwritten ‘CR’ during her 10years at French Vogue, it seemed like the only name that would make sense.

The magazine’s matte cover will have the CR across it with Fashion Book beside it, probably similar to the mock-up below.

There’s no mistaking this will be a fashion magazine but Roitfeld described to WWD that it’s what’s inside her new magazine that counts – as a “celebration of fashion and creativity” from a mix of well-known talents and promising upstarts — and that applies to the photographers, writers, models and stylists.  She also added that fantasy and pleasure are some of the emotions she hopes to evoke with the magazine. “I find that some people in fashion are so blasé. Fashion has to be fun,” she said.

Now the CR Fashion Book premiere issue will definitely be pretty hefty with about 288 pages including 100 pages of advertising, but it’s the personal touches that will set this tome apart from the rest.  There will be handwritten sections including Muses, Skincare, Fitness and Icons, as seen below.  To make it even more personal, Carine will treat these pages as personal stationery with a line through CR at the top of her pages.

Besides featuring established and emerging talents, including the mock-up cover shot by New York-based Argentinian photographer Sebastian Faena, I’m hoping each issue features goodies like this never-before-seen pic of Patti Smith by Bruce Weber wearing this delicate confection of a gown.

Here are a couple mock-up spreads exclusive to WWD:

Although the theme of the September issue is very hush, hush, there will also be an iPad and online component to the CR Fashion Book.
