The Nativity Scene Gets Real Minimal With A Few Pieces Of Wood

image

Through the years, the characters in the Christmas story or nativity scene, have had their share of makeovers + or ‘makeunders’ including various iterations by Lego, Precious Moments + even Fisher Price.  Yet, London designer Emilie Voirin has broken it down to the bare minimum.

image

Voirnin’s contemporary nativity set is handcrafted in beech wooden blocks with different proportions, representing various characters including Mary, Joseph, three wise men, an angel, a sheep + a donkey, plus baby Jesus, placed on a slightly lighter block representing a manger, with their names printed in plain black capital letters..  Characters devoid of features + colours for a modern appearance, are meant to appeal to both believers + atheists alike according to Voirnin.

“The holy scene that has been broadly reproduced is here recognizable by the names only, giving free reign to people’s imagination,” the designer told dezeen.  The ‘Minimal Nativity’ set comes tessellated in a square black box + available for purchase at the designer’s website.

Here’s the trailer ‘The Stan Smith’ presented by adidas Originals, celebrating the return of the iconic shoe next year.  Opening with the real Stan Smith saying, ‘A lot of people now think I’m a shoe. They don’t even know I was a tennis player. The shoe has really taken on a life of its own, way beyond me,’ just confirms the fierce nature of this classic.

Shot like a documentary, a slew of international talents came together to reveal what the sneaker means to them, including anecdotes from actors Will Arnett, Max Greenfield + Ana Girardot; Tennis Star Andy Murray; singer-songwriters Sky Ferreira + Momo Wu, DJ’s Kim Ann Foxman + Terranova; designers Lucio Castro + Louis-Marie Castelbajac; as well artists Hisham Akira Bharoocha + Xander Gaines.

Can’t wait!

For #ThrowbackThursday, brighten your day with fashion film ‘Ephemeral Nature’, written + directed by the talented Gsus Lopez.  Best Film Winner of Barcelona ASVOFF 2012, the film focuses on a secret hidden behind closed doors by a classy + stylish couple, played by Jeff Kristian + Linda Landers, living in a London maisonette.  Part of their secret includes their relationship with several plastic objects like hand-made acrylic playful jewelry by Displexia.

The husband’s + wife’s life motto is pleasure + therefore they are driven by desire. It is their nature + all pleasures are ephemeral.  Great motto live by, right?!

How To Carry Your Art On Your Sleeve

image

Wearable art, is sometimes used to describe garments that deserve reverence, due to their construction + or innovation, + rarely is it taken literally.  Yet, for Romanian designer Lana Dumitru, her playful + witty take on the concept will make an art lover out of anyone.  By applying hyper saturated digital prints of art by famous artists, including Rene Magritte + Georgia O’Keefe, on clothing with a sporty edge, makes Lana’s pieces from her F.C. Lana for Moja collection, highly desirable.  Oh, + don’t worry about the pieces being overwhelmed by images – Lana was clever enough to balance out the design with houndstooth, one of this season’s trendy patterns.

F.C. Lana for Moja is a recreation of Lana’s own imaginary football team of artists which includes dresses, tops + reversible skirts.  Dumitru cleverly adds the name of the artist in caps with a number, similar to a sports jersey.  The houndstooth pattern then covers the backs of dresses, tops + some of the skirts, wristbands + collars.

Aren’t these tops + skirts just the best?  I especially love the OKEE 7 (O’Keefe) top paired with the scissor skirt below (row 2).

Kate Moss’s 60th Anniversary Playboy Cover Is So Good, It Will Make You Sick

Check out Kate Moss’s 60th Anniversary Playboy cover shot by the amazing photography duo, Mert Alas + Marcus Piggott (Mert + Marcus) – AND she’s turning 40 too (Jan 16th to be exact)!  I know, gag right?!

The cover was first leaked through Instagram by Mert Alas, in a pic of Kate cuddling with the magazine, which started cyber pandemonium, as any news on Moss always does.

Here are some of the sexy shots found within.  My favorites have to be the ones where Moss is dressed as a bunny, especially the one on the lower right – her gaze + cheekbones are killer!

Love the elegance of the black bunny suit with black ears, 5-inch stilettos + French cuffs.

The January/February 2014 double issue will feature an unprecedented 18-page spread on Moss, which is sure to make it a collectible.
