Here Are Legos Margiela Would Definitely Play With

image

Belgian designer Martin Margiela is known for his longtime love affair with minimalism + no color like white, symbolizes that more.  So, when I saw LEGO Architecture Studio, featuring over 1,200 white + transparent bricks, slopes, plates + more, Margiela’s name screamed inside my head.

To heighten the experience further, a basic instruction manual is replaced by a 272-page guidebook, written in collaboration with leading architects + endorsed by leading design houses.  The guidebook includes tips, techniques + hands-on exercises, sure to make you a very sought after architect within your own mind.

But, couldn’t you also imagine the lovely blogger Ivania Carpio (below), of Love Aesthetics, playing with these too?

She also adores white – her daily color of choice, for 99% of her looks.

Loving the Prada AW/13 ‘Real Fantasies’ fashion film by the Rotterdam creative agency AMO.  With live action models wearing AW/13 looks for both men + women, in flat environments that look like sets, in muted colors, I couldn’t help but think about the b&w French New Wave films of the late Fifties + Sixties.  The music in this fashion film however, gives it the somber tone of a ‘whodunit’ flick, considering the underlying sexiness of the models.

(If unfamiliar with French New Wave films, start with the iconic ‘Breathless‘ by Jean-Luc Godard, starring the yummy Jean-Paul Belmondo + Jean Seberg.)

Lady Gaga Never Runs Out Of Mystery

image(photo: Inez van Lamsweerde + Vinoodh Matadin)

For the cover of her single ‘Applause’, from her new album ‘ARTPOP’, we see Momma Monster’s made-up face in white accentuated by bright colors, shot by Inez van Lamsweerde + Vinoodh Matadin, the genius photographing duo. Yet, the end result IS a mystery, begging you to ask questions –  Why a pantomime with smeared make-up?  Is it meant to conjure up sadness or rebellion?  Either way, that is the beauty about Lady Gaga – she always keeps you guessing + wondering what will be next, from her music to her new look(s).  Her broad range from vocals to self-expression, do nothing but constantly inspire with relentless ferocity.

‘Applause’, co-written by longtime collaborator DJ Shadow, is set to drop Aug 19, which is the presale date of album ‘ARTPOP’.  And to think, 9days later, Momma Monster will be headlining the VMAS at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

But seriously, with her name + song title written in that script, under such an ‘in your face’ portrait, reminds me of many album covers from the Seventies + Eighties.  Love, love, love!

Mary Katrantzou Is Going To Make You Wish It Were Freezing Out

image

Can you believe this beautiful piece of clothing is outerwear?  Well, it is + it’s made possible by two heavies in fashion + outerwear – Mary Katrantzou + Moncler.  But you have to ask yourself, ‘How does Katrantzou have time for her own creations + another designer collaboration, with Longchamp + Topshop in 2012 + more recently with Repetto (sadly, it did nothing for me but still heart this Mary).

image

The capsule collection, called ‘Moncler M’, will include coats, down jackets, skirts + pants covered in Katrantzou‘s signature kaleidoscopic prints.  The silhouettes however, will range from body-hugging to oversized versions, with spirals of nylon, asymmetric hems + major volume.

Although some Moncler die-hards might turn away, the subtle yet not so subtle differences, are reason enough to buy yourself an early holiday gift.  I of course would go all in + get the extremely beautiful opulent top piece in that gorgeous Katrantzou green print.

Moncler M collection by Mary Katrantzou will be available globally at Moncler boutiques come August.

A GIFferent Type Of Riot Ensues In These Living Punk Posters

Once again, photographic duo Meinke Klein + stylist Anna Trevelyan use GIFs brilliantly, in ‘Riot’, part of SHOWstudio’s ‘Punk’ series.  With the help of illustrator Magnus Dekker + sick fashions by designers synonymous with ‘punk’, including Westwood, Hogg + McQueen, the dynamic images beautifully become living punk posters, channeling themes of anarchy through obvious ‘consumption’ of the models, their clothes + what is deemed beautiful.

Yet, this is not the first time these artists craft their magic using GIFs – remember their ‘In Bloom‘ series for SHOWstudio?   For more ‘Riot’ click here.

Enjoy!

Sonia by Sonia Rykiel’s New Logo Is On Point

Although Sonia Rykiel could do no wrong by me, I must admit, I’m digging the new Sonia by Sonia Rykiel logo.  Created by the Maison Nue agency, as part of it’s ongoing repositioning, the emphasis is now on the Sonia name. Ironically, Saint Laurent went in the opposite direction as far as emphasis goes.

Here’s the old Sonia Rykiel logo:

And the new and improved Sonia by Sonia Rykiel logo:imageToday also marks the launch of the Sonia Rykiel’s pop-up site, soniaby.com, shown above + below.image(photos: Courtesy Photo)

Featuring an interactive video, users of soniaby.com get an opportunity to check out the contemporary line’s Fall collection, set to drop in stores now.  But, definitely make some time to check soniaby.com out as there are so many looks to choose from + mix + match – the leather jogging pants alone, are killer.
