For Fall, Marc Jacobs May Have Found Inspiration In Science Fiction

image

When I first saw the fall collection for Marc Jacobs, the future came to mind but the sci-fi kind.  The simplicity of the looks, primarily in light colors, reminded me of the vision shared by many sci-fi filmmakers of the past, on what people were thought of wearing in the future – clothes that are very nondescript + clean, leaving individuality to the person’s emotion + reasoning rather than their style through dressing.  The barefaced models with blunt-cut wigs secured with wide headbands further emphasized this.  In a way, a lot of these looks mimicked uniforms but with beautiful + interesting nuances.

There were dresses + tunics over pants, in textured knits + simple fabrics.  At times, these looks had a monochrome palette, broken up by different colored shapes (row 3, look 4).  On the other hand, this break also came in the form of shiny graphics (row 3, look 1) or airy organza ruffle detail (row 1, look 4).image

This film is sure to take the edge off today’s chill.  A promo created by Zeitguised for German electro duo Mouse on Mars ’Cream Theme’ on Spezmodia, is based on the following: escapism is freedom if claimed by a subject – it can not be consumed.  My guess is, it all depends on the subject.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day With A Romance In Lower Mathematics

Sorry Video Unavailable, Valentine's Day, cause and yvette

For Valentine’s Day, here’s Chuck Jones’ 1965 animated short ‘The Dot + The Line, A Romance In Lower Mathematics’,  a true classic + one of my favorite love stories.  Luckily, this story can be referenced over + over, in its book form below.

The story, penned by architect + author Norton Juster, is about how a straight line falls hopelessly in love with a dot.  The dot finding the line so stiff prefers a squiggle.  The line then tries to do whatever he can to compete + manages to bend into an angle.  The line works to refine this new ability, creating shapes so complex that it has to label its sides + angles to keep its place.  The dot then realizes the squiggle was nothing but chaos + then runs off with the line.

I’m sure we’ve all been there!

For Fall, Irish Heritage Inspires Clover Canyon’s Prints

image

For Fall, designer Rozae Nichols’ Irish heritage inspired Clover Canyon’s ever popular digital prints. Prints were often paired with + or on top of Leslie tartan plaids.  A for instance is the Irish landscape which included architectural details like a stained glass window (row 1, look 1) + marble statues, as those found on building facades, complete with a shield + crest (row 1, look 2) + clover motifs.  The color palette was true to the season, full of autumnal colors but there were hints of lime green, bright yellow + water blue breaking up tradition.

3 Films That Prove Love Isn’t Always Neat + Pretty

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner + should you opt to stay home, here’s a movie list that will definitely remind you how, if you’re in a relationship, no matter how bad that fight was last Tuesday, it could be a hell of a lot worse.  True there are love stories out there that live up to Disney standards, with lots of sparkle + wonderment, but let’s get real here.

Unconditional love is the love we all aspire to have + give back, + yet, pets pretty much own this one.  So, to what degrees will one go to, to overlook someone’s handicaps or crazy quirks?  A lot, in the case of David Cronenberg’s ‘The Fly‘ (1986).  Now, if you’re familiar with Cronenberg’s work, you know you’re in for something disturbing.  The film stars Jeff Goldblum as the scientist who starts transforming into a giant man/fly hybrid after one of his experiments goes horribly wrong.  The girlfriend’s (played by Geena Davis) love is seriously put to the test in this one.

Another good one is Tomas Alfredson’s ‘Let The Right One In’ (2008).  In this film you have a shy + terribly bullied boy who falls in love with a strange girl who just happens to be a vampire.  They did a remake called ‘Let Me In’ starring Chloe Moretz, but it’s not as intense.  Oh, + if you don’t like subtitles, give it a try with this one – I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

When it comes to unrequited love, revenge is sure to follow + one film that best highlights this is Takashi Miike’s ‘Audition‘ (1999).  The movie starts with a widower, who upon his friend’s suggestion, sets up an audition for a non-existent film, simply to find himself a new wife.  He thinks he’s scored upon meeting an actress who seems perfect, but is she really?  What happens next would make any man think twice about dating, let alone crossing any woman – talk about nothing being worst than a woman’s scorn!  Contains subtitles.

Miss Piggy To Say ‘I Do’ In A Westwood Wedding Gown

image

Miss Piggy has always been known to have great fashion sense, so it came to no surprise when she asked Vivienne Westwood to design her wedding gown in Disney’s new film ‘Muppets Most Wanted’, opening in theaters March 21.  ’Vivienne Westwood is fabulous — just like moi,’ said Miss Piggy to WWD.  ’When I asked her to design this wedding dress for moi’s new movie, ‘Muppets Most Wanted,’ she was thrilled + I was thrilled. The only one a bit ‘iffy’ about it was the frog.’

Now Miss Piggy, as vain as she is, chose wisely in picking Westwood to design her wedding gown complete with corset detailing.  There will be no need for Miss Piggy to wear Spanx on her wedding day with Westwood’s genius at creating the perfect female silhouette, even if it’s a pig.  The Westwood couture Long Ivory Court wedding gown with corset touches + paillettes made from recycled plastic bottles, probably from all the expensive bottled water Miss Piggy insists on drinking, accessorized with an ivory tulle veil, is truly stunning.  There will be other Westwood designs for Miss Piggy in the film, including a couture Harris Tweed houndstooth check coat + matching beret worn in a scene set at the Tower of London, as well as a long silver hand-embroidered floral lace gown for a special number in the film.

Now, although green + pink look good together, the only question remains – Will Miss Piggy say ‘I Do’ to poor old Kermit The Frog?
