Digging this video for Moullinex‘s ‘Darkest Night’ from ‘Flora’, the new debut album, out now.  Not only does it look good but the sound is ‘sweet’!  Love the look + feel of it – from the lighting, all black background, simple outfit with the right amount sheen to her barefeet contemporary dance moves.  Vocals by Iwona Swkarek of Polish duo Rebeka, just add the extra little something – don’t you think she sounds a bit like Blondie – just saying?

Loving This Ad For Galeries Lafayette Featuring Pedro Almodóvar

image

What better way to celebrate the the inauguration of anything than with an ad by the amazing Jean-Paul Goude with Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar (above). Created for Galeries Lafayette’s newly renovated Menswear department, Goude, a frequent Galeries collaborator, borrowed a page from Serge Diaghilev, founder of the Ballets Russes, for both inspiration and styling.  It’s a great thing too that this ad is due out in May, around the same time of the Cannes Film Festival.  In it, we see the filmmaker wearing a fur-trimmed coat with tux, while holding a script for his new film called “I’m So Excited” (“Los Amantes Pasajeros” in Spanish), premiering in France next month.

Catherine Deneuve From The Sixties & Seventies Inspires Vivienne Westwood Red Label For Fall

As much as I love Vivienne Westwood, a lot of the designer was only present in the makeup donned by the models (cray, cray!), thanks to Val Garland of MAC.

For her Red Label RTW Fall 2013 collection, although inspired by the fabulous Catherine Deneuve, circa 1960’s + 1970’s, could be seen worn by the actress, for Westwood, they showed too much restraint and let’s face it, restraint + Westwood in the same breath doesn’t make sense.

Mary Katrantzou Takes You On A Scenic Route For Fall

For her RTW Fall 2013 collection, using pretty pictures + form, Mary Katrantzou once again, produces great looks with slight differences – this time, the images are of landscapes + bridges  + there are black-on-black looks which should make those of us with an aversion to color super happy.  To say ‘it’s all about the details’ where Katrantzou is concerned, is an understatement.  I’ve always been amazed as to how Mary’s been able to use imagery as well as she has, and here, it’s quite evident, she’s a true master of such a skill.  Some of the pieces showed scenes straight from Japanese screens, which explains the many nods to origami – from strapless tops adorned with cascading folds similar to that of a croissant to those attached to wispy chiffon + Mary’s own interpretation of a Japanese robe fashioned as a jacket, with an empire waist, complete with an obi.  Then you had certain parts of a picture scene (the moon) strategically placed (row 3, look 3) on a shoulder, for example, appearing to look like ‘brooches’.  Now, some other designers could easily take this concept literally but not this one.  At times, a thick forest, served as a belt between two colors whereas, in other instances, there would be an image of a sunset (row 5, look 5) that could easily pass for a Gerard Richter painting, with colors melting into one another with just one brushstroke.

Now as much as I love color, the black-on-black looks totally killed it for me, especially as the black images were that of bridges – I mean, look at those lines…love, love, love – not to mention that first look in row 1!

Gotta love this music vid by Gossip for ‘Get A Job’ – the many jobs that Beth advertises in different personas + scenarios, just makes you wanna die laughing (not at all surprising she looks good in all of her looks)!   As soon as I saw it, my smile just got bigger + bigger, not to mention, the brilliant look + feel of the video.  Cheese never looked so good!

If you don’t heart Gossip + Beth Ditto, you definitely will after this, but if you’re smart enough to already do so, you’ll love them even more!

For Fall, Dreaming Comes Easy In Olivia von Halle’s Silk PJs

image

If there’s anything that says it all, about Olivia von Halle‘s new pajamas for Fall, it’s this pic above (wonder if that’s opium she’s smoking?) – from the composition to the styling, including the bob + red lips (courtesy of Leaf Greener, senior fashion editor for Elle in China), she stares with intensity, while judging with ease. Influenced by Coco Chanel, the Twenties + Art Deco, (obviously) I can totally envision Coco posed + smoking, just like that, yet, wearing pearls of course.

image

Before stepping into the design arena, Olivia was already a trend forecaster for Future Laboratory and WGSN in London, but what sparked the idea of her infamous PJs (due in part to David Beckham buying so many for his wife), is what fashion biographies + memoirs are made of:  Six-inch heels snapped her ankle, leaving her with a lot of time to kill while recuperating on her parents’ sofa back in the U.K.  As luck would have it, friends stopped by to see how she was doing to then ask, ‘Oh, poor you.…Oh, never mind that, what are you wearing?’ – The rest, is history.

The campaign oozes in luxury and sublime decadence including the pairing of PJ tops under 3/4 coats in printed fabric, with huge fur collars + lapels (high, high, high, drama) as seen above.  The lighting, posturing + location of the pics of this campaign capture this era perfectly, especially with Chinese models Miao Bin Si and Gao Ying .  Love the abundant negative space in some of the pics.

The Fall collection will expand + have kimonos.  But before you purchase any of the PJs, you should definitely consider buying new heels to go with them, as I doubt they’ll ever make it to the bed, unless of course, it’s because they’re on the bed already or on the floor, as you’ve been undressed by your lover.

The Spring collection is available now.

Rebecca Minkoff’s New Clutches Pump Up The Volume

image

(photo: Courtesy Photo)

Once again, Rebecca Minkoff takes handbags to another level, but this time, it involves audio (I guess Jawbone speakers aren’t fashionable enough for all the stylish chicks out there).  Like all of Minkoff’s bags, there’s no denying this clutch looks great, especially when accessorized with so much arm candy!?

In collaboration with Stellé Audio Couture, the six clutches-turned-portable speakers

image

(with chrome like speakers no less) made their first appearance at Minkoff’s SS/13 show, as seen below (loving that killer polish in bright light blue!).  Basically, you have a gorgeous clutch, that when opened, the speakers are exposed, making the clutch itself it’s stand. But it really is no surprise, as Minkoff is usually ahead of the ‘curve’ and knows it’s not only guys that are into tech gadgets anymore – we totally dig them too but when packaged so beautifully + functional at that, you know the designer has another hit on her hands.

‘Their vision for building beautiful, premium consumer electronics aimed at fashionable females is so innovative. It’s the perfect collaboration for me to expand my label into electronics without sacrificing my design aesthetic.’

Using blue tooth technology, these Stellé Audio Clutches are finally for sale at Ron Robinson at Fred Segal, retailing for $399 along with a non-Minkoff Stelle clutch for $299 + pillar-style speakers for $349.  So go ahead and buy yourself one – Valentine’s Day or not, who really needs a reason to pamper themselves like this!?
