Mary Katrantzou’s Plays With Pleats, Florals + Stripes For Resort 2016

mk4

For her Resort collection, Mary Katrantzou played with several patterns, pleats + silhouettes reminiscent of the Seventies, which is okay by me. For this collection, she showed floral prints + various stripe patterns in an array of colorways. There were diagonal rainbow colored stripes on a long sleeved mini dress, with a sheer black portion of stripes, over the right breast + arm. A midi skirt with both wide + thin stripes, peaking up from the hem up to the waist, which start of horizontal but then swerve at a diagonal, in a mix of colors, giving it that vintage vibe.

There were other stripes, like those below, that covered a pleated midi dress, up from the hem to waist + from wrist to elbow. On its left, from the waist + to hem + from wrist to elbow, blue + black stripes creep up vertically then get cut off by horizontal stripes, of the same colorway, that look like a loose ribbon, wrapping itself under the bust line. Then you have an illustration of tulips, coming from behind the ‘ribbon’, while wrapping a bit above the elbow. The right of the skirt, however, has olive, black + white stripes that are vertical under the bust line + elbow to wrist. The skirt portion however, had the same color stripes but diagonally.

There were plenty of other floral prints, in various sizes + types as seen below. The other silhouettes in the collection were long pants, with a slight flare, along with a three tiered layered dress, with a mix of different colored stripes setting the tone for the illustrated daffodils, running along the right breast to mid torso. But my most favorite look is the pant suit on top, featuring a sweet inner panel of multicolored pleats, in the center, with red spaghetti straps paired with slightly flared wide trousers. That same inner panel pleat of colors was also seen in other looks, like the white midi dress above, coming from the front of the bust line, on both sides, creating a beautiful effect.

Capturing A Flower’s Ripple Effect Is Easier Than You Think

re

Nothing is better than seeing water ripples come alive, but imagine being able to freeze that moment in time?

Floatingvases-5-640x486

Well OoDesign has created a floating glass vase called ‘Ripple’, that’s shaped like a water ripple, with a long enough ‘dip’ to fit a flower’s stem. See, how much it looks like the flower is causing the water ripple, once the vase is floating, as seen above? But, what makes this floating vase extra special, is how depending on the movement of the air, the flower can change its position + appearance in the container.

You could almost see rain drops hitting the water above, can’t you?

A Beautiful Record Of Mother + Child In The Wildlife

mct

The incomparably strong relationship between mother + child is one that can simply be demonstrated between how the mother protects + cares for her child. This, in turn, lead to the creation of ‘Mother and Child: Wildlife Photography’ by Reg Grundy, published by Glitterati Incorporated. Considered a dedication to the resilient animal mothers of this planet + their amazing offspring, Gundy’s goal was to capture, through his lens, the essence of this critical + protective bond. He shot these amazing moments in the mountains, high veldt, woodlands, rainforest, jungles + oceans of both hemispheres.

This book is part of his final tribute, as a recorder of creatures of the wild. Gundy said, “I am here to capture a moment when a creature will do something special + I will record that finite second + share it,” which for us looking in, is a special treat. Through this book, the reader discovers what sets the reality of shooting in the wild, is that it is often the animal that controls the distance between photographer + itself.  Just by looking at the pic below, showing a cheetah with her cubs, demonstrates Gundy’s extraordinary patience to photograph the perfect memory.

Leafing through the amazing images of Gundy’s animal mothers + their offspring, you find yourself wondering how was he able to get that close to shoot such a moment, + then whether his subjects’ predators were simultaneously looking at him + his subjects as their next meal.

The Cool Short Shoe History Infographic By Farfetch.com

Throughout history, shoes have always been an integral part of any look. Of course, a shoe’s style, from different eras, had many influences including politics, film + music. But the best way to describe this bit of history, is with this cool illustrated infographic + GIF (bottom), created by Farfetch.com.

Short Shoe History Graphic

Dating back to the Twenties, up until present day, it appears that form reigned over function. But today, a shoe’s form exposes it’s function by highlighting its construction, through many details including visible screws, platforms + heels, that sometimes one could pass off as a weapon.

Shoes, shoes, shoes + more shoes, please!
