Favorite MSGM RTW Fall 2015

image

For Fall, designer Massimo Giorgetti decided to turn up the heat with a sumptuously colorful RTW collection.  Some looks popped with the simplicity of color blocking, while others did so with texture, including mohair, curly lamb + a  brilliant cream faux fur coat with golden flecks

There were plenty of different accents that decorated many pieces including 3D heart embroideries, made to look like large rippled tropical leaves.  The shoes + boots throughout the collection made a strong statement with half a starburst shape, on the front of the shoe, in a contrasting color.

Of course, there were several cropped pants with a kick flare + opera length gloves in bright colors, which have been seen in many other RTW Fall collections.

Fashion Film ‘The Face’ References The Past Which Highlights Today’s Fashions

For #FlashbackFriday, delve into the past with ‘The Face’, a fashion film for Fault Magazine, comprised of three short films.  As per FAULT magazine, by referencing the 1960s, 70s + 80s, these films demonstrate how fashion often harks back to bygone ‘Decades’ in an effort to attain an element of stability and clear identity through hindsight.  After all, isn’t all that’s in fashion today, simply a recycled if not resurrected version of the past?

Enjoy!

There’s nothing better than an accessory that assumes the form of something utilitarian but in fact, it just exists as a form of expression + adornment, which is exactly what these ‘Acrylic Glasses’ by Shalo Shayo are all about.  Yet, what makes this glasses, in the trendy circular shape so special, are the words ‘See With Your Tongue’ in capital letters written across the top.

Part of ‘The Recreation of the Memory’ collection, inspired by synesthesia, the mixture of the 5 human senses (sight, smell, taste, touch + hearing), these glasses were ‘created from the idea of being able to be reminded of a visual image by tasting something.  According to the designer, the complete sensory experience involving these five senses, is included in the garment or accessory, in this case; The sight through images + colour perception, touch by the mix of textures in each garment, the smell of the fabrics either synthetically or naturally, taste through the association between a texture or colour with some flavour that we know that can stimulate the taste buds, + hearing by the sound produced fabrics rub skin or between them; All of these sensations intended to provoke an emotion or trigger a memory.’  They are a collectible + can be used as a decorative object.

If you too would like to ‘See With Your Tongue’, these ‘Acrylic Glasses’ are available for purchase at NOT JUST A LABEL.

The RTW Fall 2015 Collection For The Girl That Likes To Be Touched

image

Being a tactile kind of chick myself, I was overjoyed when I saw Mary Katrantzou’s RTW Fall collection, full of pieces you just want to touch.  Inspired by anti-kenophobia (fear of empty spaces), all of the spaces were filled with a mix of interesting materials + textiles.  A Victorian affliction of sorts, she drew upon the opulence of the time with brocade patterns then pairing them with modern materials, with a modern sensibility.  The pattern play of two dimensional with three dimensional patterns was genius.  Just look at the shift dress (pic 1) with a brocade top + a skirt covered in squishy foam spikes, brought together by a waistband made up of large prisms.

I loved all the fishtail skirts throughout the collection, as they look good on everyone, no matter what size you are. All the coats throughout the collection were amazing, especially the last one below, with an all-around floral pattern in magenta mixed with hints of deep red – I’ve forgotten how good those two look together.

The show notes read ’An exploration of the relationship between heritage opulence + techy utopia, the collection seeks to redefine the parameters of modern luxury + documents the significance of value perception,’ which Katrantzou achieved masterfully.  Once again, Katrantzou exceeds my expectations.
