For #FlashbackFriday, here’s the 411 on film ‘The A-Z of ’90s Slang’ directed by the Layzell Bros.  Starring some of the most nostalgic animation of all time, the words as much as the visuals, represent a perfect record of how a whole generation communicated by using as little as one word, yet loaded with a lot of meaning.

Enjoy + peace out!

The ‘Queens Of Berlin’ Are Such A Drag

image

Shot in his typical style, Berlin based photographer Joseph Wolfgang Ohlert captured these amazing ladies during a night out at the famous gay club GMF.  The’Queens Of Berlin’ series includes photos of an array of different types of drag queens, all very beautiful, with plenty of style + presence.

They’re all great but my favorites have to be the one above in the blue dress + the one below in the patriotic dress.  The one above just hypnotizes, with every facet of her look.  The eyelashes look like large wings, the headpiece looks like a turban with a huge red metallic ball + my favorite, a tee shirt or dress, bearing a woman’s face, peeking from under a sheer powder blue dress embellished with delicate crystals.

As far as my patriotic friend is concerned, bless her little heart for loving the red, white + blue, but honestly, who doesn’t just adore a deep plunge neckline with chest hair peeking out?!  Love her!  Doesn’t she share a resemblance to Wonder Woman?

In the new GoldieBlox ad, GoldieBlox continues to push the envelope on breaking down barriers for little girls before hitting puberty, with a GoldieBlox action figure in time for the holidays.  In the ‘GoldieBlox v. the Big Sister Machine’ ad, you see ‘Big Sister’ on a tv screen repeating the line ‘You are beauty, + beauty is perfection’, to lined up little girls, dressed in pink dresses + heels, as they take too-skinny, too-pretty dolls that look a lot like Barbie, from a conveyor belt.  Then suddenly, salvation is theirs in the shape of a girl with frizzy hair, overalls + Chuck Taylors, complete with hammer, to destroy the machine!  And like a phoenix, from the decimated machine, a GoldieBlox doll complete with wild hair + sneakers appears.

According to Time magazine, ‘The original GoldieBlox began as a boxed toy that included a storybook + the wheels, gears + other building materials girls needed to construct machines that would help the character Goldie + her friends.  Sparking interest at a young age is the key to closing this gender gap: Studies show that girls lose interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) careers as early as age eight.’

Although some efforts have been made in the creation girls toys that instill strength + the value of an education, they still lack a true understanding of the concept like Legos with Friends.  GoldieBlox creator Debbie Sterling told Time, ‘The Lego Friends line has definitely been getting girls to play with Legos.  But I don’t think it’s been inspiring girls to want to be engineers. It’s continuing to inspire girls to look pretty + decorate.’

With the tagline ‘Other dolls are built for fashion, Goldie is built for action,’ here’s to hoping the pink aisles for girls continue to get watered down enough to appeal more to smarts than looks!

Wake up to the U.S. network TV debut of FKA twigs on last night’s episode of ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon‘ singing her sexy ‘Two Weeks’ single off album ‘LP1’.  As usual, she killed it, dressed in a copper corset + black flowing skirt, with two high front slits just blowing all about.  But besides her beauty + impeccable sense of style, her performance was made that much more, using flowing white fabric as her backup dancer, adding further poetry.  With one of the most amazing + distinct voices out there, FKA twigs will continue to surprise, hypnotize + enchant!

Enjoy!

Loving Die Antwoord‘s new video for ‘Ugly Boy’.  With Ninja’s sexy boxer face, with a nose that resembles one that’s been hit one too many times, depending the angle + Yo-Landi Vi$$er’s petite breathy voice, over a sexy track, it’s truly a winning combination.  And don’t think you’re seeing things when you see cameos by a famous few including the ATL Twins, Cara Delevingne, Jack Black, Marilyn Manson + Dita von Teese.  Now, if only I could find that gold look for myself with long gold pointy claws?

Enjoy!

Hand Knits By URSOTIGRE

image

Hand knits from the AW/14 collection by URSOTIGRE are a sure standout for Fall.  From a ribbed knit, to a subtle cable design, there’s always some detail that jumps out at you, making it unique.  Some of the sweaters look to have rolled edges, while others have a small section where it looks like someone pulled the yarn causing a big fray.  Hats are also part of the collection which include animal heads, complete with a face + ears, to a cap with an attached scarf over one ear.

image

‘Ursotigre’ is considered to be a special creature discovered in a magical forest by Sónia Pessoa, a Lisbon based multi talented artist + all time knitter.  Inspired by this animal, half bear (urso), half tiger (tigre), she created a brand of beautiful knitted clothes.  But best of all, every piece is a one of a kind character of the URSOTIGRE universe.

Warriors of Downpour City

image

image

People’s behavior in the rain inspired Anne van Galen’s Design Academy Eindhoven graduate project entitled ‘Warriors of Downpour City’.  Anne told dezeen, ‘How they move, react + function. I spent hours just looking at people in the rain.’

image

Each piece, made of silicone, evolved from a different posture when huddling in a cold, wet environment resulting in a range of restricted movements like in pic 2 below.  There are also domed pieces, with both clear + frosty appearances able to deflect water away from the wearers body.  Meanwhile, there are these pretty cool platform sandals to walk above water puddles.

Rain or not, a lot of these pieces would look great worn alone or over items-wouldn’t pic 1 below look great inside a fur vest or over a mod-style dress?
