This track belongs to the beautiful New Zealander Estère.  Entitled ‘Cruel Charlie’, she describes it as her ode to her fictional ex-boyfriend Charlie.  With just her and her MPC (named Lola btw), I think it totally fits for muffling the blues of a cloudy + rainy NYC day like today.

Love her look, don’t you!?

Check out this crazy cool fashion film for Nina Ricci A/W12 by geniuses Inez and Vinoodh (Inez Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin).  In it, you have model Kati Nescher casually going to a lake which she mistakes for being ordinary.  As she begins to sip, Jo Radcliffe‘s animated creatures emerge from the water which she ingests and embraces with abandoned caress, all set to the experimental score by Brooklyn’s own Avan Lava.

Here’s AnOther Magazine’s take on ‘Modern Couture’, the accompanying film to their autumn/winter 2012 issue.  With a fashion story shot by Ruth Hogben and styled by Katie Shillingford (new fashion director for AnOther Magazine), you get to see different pieces shimmy, wraparound, slink and sway from couture of days past into couture of the 21st century brought to you by Raf Simons’s debut couture collection.  Susannah Frankel then unlocks the mind of geniuses by talking to several designers and fashion royalty including Raf Simons, Donatella Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier and Karl Lagerfeld.

The accompanying film by Ruth Hogben, starring model Saskia de Brauw, features the following cast in order of appearance:  Atelier Versace, Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci, Valentino Haute Couture, Iris Van Herpen, Maison Martin Margiela Artisinal, Gaultier Paris, Giorgio Armani Privé, Dior Haute Couture and Chanel Haute Couture.

Shillingford said, ‘We wanted to create something that made people smile,’ and that she did.

Enjoy!

Like anyone needs more reasons to love Solange Knowles, here’s just another – check out her new video for ‘Losing You’, a collaboration with producer Blood Orange‘s Dev (Devonté) Hynes (also responsible for his collaboration on Sky Ferreira’s ‘Everything is Embarrassing‘ along with producer Ariel Rechtshaid).  Set in South Africa, surrounded by a rainbow of colors, from the walls to the amazing looks by Le Sape (Society for the Advancement of People of Elegance, which dates back to 1922), Cape Town locals and Solange’s many ensembles, you’re quickly hooked.

Solange seduces us with her biting sick swagger, mixing + playing with patterns in various designs including Kenzo, Opening Ceremony, DVF, Suno + J.Crew, you can’t but help but smile, jump up + start dancing yourself with complete abandon, similar to the concept + feel of the video.

Of the video’s feel Solange told V magazine she and director Melina Matsoukas decided to film ‘Losing You’ in South Africa with no real firm concept.

They just grabbed a camera,  with a sense of spontaneity, capturing a few things that were crucial to Solange’s vision:

the vibe of her friendship and all of the crazy escapades she gets herself into with the abstract and elegant Le Sape society (Society for the Advancement of People of Elegance) formed in The Congo (dating back to 1922) which was documented by Daniele Tamagni in his Gentleman of Bacongo book and her NYC friends that flew to Cape Town to be part of the fun.

Love the vintage radio backdrops, the barber shop graphics, the dancing, the clothes, the patterns, the colors – but above all, the song – the tight beats along with Solange’s voice is just plain wonderful and will fall prey to being on ‘repeat’ for a while.

More Dries Please For Spring 2013

Dries Van Noten’s SS/13 collection during PFW spoke to me on many levels.  I love how he mismatched his looks with contrasting patterns, textures and relaxed silhouettes.  Throughout the collection you noticed light knits paired with sheer patterned organza, primarily in plaid and sometimes with florals.  The plaids varied in design, from windowpane to tartan, which was a constant throughout the collection in primarily dark colors like wine and navy as seen below, yet also appearing in lighter colors too.

A lot of the pant looks had a slight masculine air about them but Dries knew how to femme them up with heels, a clutch, adding a peplumed top and occasionally, make the pant in the sheer patterned organza.  He also featured shorts and skirts in various lengths.  His lighter combos (seen below), did me in, especially the light blue-gray loose ruffled top with the baggy plaid pants rolled-up at the ankles.

This collection definitely resonates with today’s very busy woman – they’re casually chic and can easily go from the office to a night out.

Electric Signature on Nowness.com.

Wake Up With Pulsating + Fluorescent Geometry Thanks To Tod’s.

Fashion filmmaker Bart Hess’s new short fashion film “Electronic Signature’, for Italian brand Tod’s, breaks it all down to basics.  By taking Tod’s iconic circles-and-diamonds pattern as inspiration, one is transported into a futuristic world held together by light, pattern, pulse, form, sex and music.  Love it!

House Of Harlow 1960 Gets Gooped For Fall

(photo: Style.com)

How elegant is this clutch above designed by Nicole Richie in collaboration with Gwyneth Paltrow for her Goop.com?  Called the ‘Addison Clutch’ and exclusive to Goop, this House of Harlow 1960 clutch is covered in dark brown and turquoise leather texture, complemented by a brushed gold trim that claps shut with a jaguar head – the best part.

Richie told Style.com, ‘The Addison is an essential style and was a perfect choice to connect to the Goop aesthetic.” (which Paltrow calls “an awesome fall statement piece”)  Would be a great feminine accent to a fall masculine look.
