For #TBT, ‘Dream The World Awake’ With Walter Van Beirendonck’s Special Touch

For #TBT, immerse yourself into the colorfully eclectic world of Walter Van Beirendonck with fashion film ‘Dream The World Awake’. Directed by the inimitable Nick Knight for SHOWstudio, the film celebrates the talent of Van Beirendonck with his 2011 retrospective at the Antwerp Fashion Museum, bearing the same name as the film. The crazy part, but not really, with Walter involved, is how these clothes could easily be worn today, four years later!

Styled by Simon Foxton, Knight took the finest Van Beirendonck pieces from his archive in photography + fashion film, to create this amazing piece of art. In motion, the models look like delicious action figures if not superheroes of sorts. I just love all the bright colors, mixed silhouettes + amazing detail, applied to every piece throughout.

Enjoy!

Smell Like Your Favorite Vice With The Help Of Kilian

kl

Considered perfume as art, perfumes by Kilian are intoxicating, hypnotic + unique. They’re so unique in fact, you can easily smell like your favorite vice + still retain every bit of class.

kill1Addictive

With the perfume line known as ‘Addictive State Of Mind’, there is ‘Light My Fire‘ that hints at cigar tobacco + my favorite, ‘Smoke For The Soul‘, which smells like ‘skunk’ weed, a type of marijuana. If caffeine is your addiction, there’s ‘Intoxicated‘ which smells like amazing Turkish coffee.

killbe2

Kilian’s ‘Boutique Exclusives’, including ‘Single Malt‘ + ‘Vodka On The Rocks‘, smell like just that. When you deeply inhale ‘Vodka On The Rocks’, you can almost savor that piercing Vodka after taste + hear the ice cubes in your glass.    If you happen to be into something a little sweeter + not as strong, there’s also an ‘Apple Brandy‘ perfume. The amazing thing about Kilian’s perfumes is that you don’t require a whiff of coffee beans to cleanse your palette, in order to smell the difference from one scent to the next.

So if any of these perfumes happen to smell like your favorite vice + you care to do without any of the health risks attached to that vice, be sure to pick up one of Kilian’s perfumes above. You won’t regret it + you’ll be sure to stand out from everyone else + pick up some new admirers along the way.

Crush This Fall’s Velvet Trend With These Designs By Amélie Pichard

crush

What better way to tap into Fall’s velvet trend than with original designs by Amélie Pichard from her AW/15 collection. With a range of footwear + accessories, the twist in Pichard’s pieces is her use of crushed velvet, either by itself or mixed with other textures.

shoecrut2

Prichard has taken a traditional pump in crushed velvet, then added a thick ribbed sock detail inside the shoe, in another material. At times, the crushed velvet just decorates the heel of a shoe.

Her accessories are also one of a kind with a crushed velvet clutch featuring a beautiful alligator on the top (above), piped in leather, whereas her backpacks, only have portions covered in the coveted Fall material (below).

Artsy Truly Knows How To Show Artist James Rosenquist Love

art

(All of the artworks featured in this post are some of my favorites by James Rosenquist.)

If you’re as much of a fan of American Pop artist James Rosenquist as I am, imagine the size of my smile when I found a site that featured his best works + more? Called Artsy, you not only get to read Rosenquist’s bio + articles on him but, you also get to see which of his artworks are for sale + what are his latest shows + events.

artsy1

But Artsy is more than just a platform with a focus on Rosenquist. Artsy’s mission is to make all the world’s art accessible to anyone with an internet connection, according to the screenshot above. Of course, Artsy does this with a spectacularly unique approach.

Positioned as a resource for both art + education, you can view artworks from over 40,000 artists, including many popular contemporaries like Takashi Murakami + Dan Colen, showcased in featured art galleries, museums + institutions, current fairs + current auctions. As for education, Artsy’s unique variety of tools, make it an ideal educational resource for educators + students. Additionally, it grants other countless individuals, the accessibility to browse great art they might never get to see, due to lack of art education funding at their school or lack of art institutions in their area of residence. Then, of course, there’s The Art Genome Project, which is the amazing classification system + technological framework that powers Artsy, featuring interesting + witty categories to explore like ‘Poured’.  According to Artsy, it maps the characteristics (they call them “genes”) that connect artists, artworks, architecture, + design objects across history. There are currently over 1,000 characteristics in The Art Genome Project, including art-historical movements, subject matter, + formal qualities.

One feature I simply adore is how with one click of their ‘View In Room’ button, under a painting pic, you can visualize how good your new piece of art (above) will look hanging on a wall, as seen below.

But for more on Artsy, + believe me, there is, you should pay them a visit + learn a few new things about your favorite artist, if not gain a new one or two.
