Light Up Your Halloween With Night Ice

image

This Halloween, why not stand out from the crowd with earrings that do more than just sparkle?  If you’re like me, who loves lights, then you’ll also love these Original Night Ice Crystal LED earrings by Night Ice.  Made with high quality 6mm cz stones, from San Francisco, by day, they look like these crystal stud earrings with standard earring backs,

but come night, when you switch to the LED backs (below), they light up.  Besides the amazing clarity + brilliance of the stones, what’s great about the white light emitted from the Original Night Ice LED earrings is its cold, with blue undertones white color, just like ice.

image

But if you prefer color, they come in the ones shown below.  There are also Flashing + Multi-color Flashing LED earrings which I’m not a fan of, as they look like Xmas lights on your lobes, but with the right attitude + style, I’m sure anyone can pull them off.  I personally prefer the simplicity of the static white ones.

Now, although the batteries only last over 30 hours, you can always buy your replacements from Night Ice.  One other great thing about these LED earrings is that you don’t have to put them away after Halloween but rather, keep the party going when hitting the next EDC or EZOO.

As far as shipping goes, in case you’re afraid of not having them in time for Halloween, they ship worldwide – US shipping: USPS First Class Mail (5-10days) or FedEx (5days) | International shipping: International FedEx or USPS First Class Mail.

Wake up to the reincarnation of Cleopatra as a CGI karaoke temptress for the information age, created by French artist Marguerite Humeau, in this excerpt from ‘Cleopatra:’That Goddess’.  As part of this year’s Serpentine Marathon inspired by the theme of extinction, Humeau, with the help of language specialists to decipher Cleopatra’s voice to sing a love song in nine extinct languages, makes this project engaging + truly special.  Marguerite told NOWNESS,’To me she was a very sensual person. There’s this very particular text by Plutarch which describes her voice, but also her presence as someone who was almost bewitching. ‘There was sweetness also in the tones of her voice; + her tongue, like an instrument of many strings, she could readily turn to whatever language she pleased… ‘ Life of Antony (XXVII.2-3)

I love the combination of digital pop imagery along with Humeau’s ingenuity of using extinct languages.  Hearing Cleopatra’s assumed breathy + sultry voice, singing an Ancient Egyptian song in Ge’ez, Median, Ancient Greek, Arabic, Egyptian, Aramaic, Ancient Hebrew, Troglodyte + Persian, makes you think about all you’ve ever read or seen about the iconic Egyptian queen, in a flash, but this time, she’s more real than before.

NOWNESS asked Humeau where did the idea to revive Cleopatra as a 21st-century diva come from + she simply said,’ I was really interested in the future of performance + this idea of resuscitating the dead in pop culture.  One of my previous projects was a full opera reconstructing the vocal tracts of four prehistoric creatures. What would happen if I could that with Amy Winehouse? Recreating her voice so we could create music from her synthetic vocal chords? And then I thought that Cleopatra would be a good place to start.’

Enjoy!

Anne Demeulemeester’s Creative Process Captured In A Book

Anne Demeulemeester once said, ‘Black is not sad. Bright colors are what depresses me. They’re so… empty. Black is poetic. How do you imagine a poet? In a bright yellow jacket? Probably not.’  Well now, with the help of Rizzoli, you’ll be able to delve even deeper into Demeulemeester’s dark poetry with new book, ‘Ann Demeulemeester’.  Considered as one of my favorite designers, due to the element of abstract mischief in her designs, this book is set to be published at the end of this month.  Through a series of 1000 unseen illustrations, you’ll get to see how the designer’s obscure yet sophisticated style, where materials such as mesh + leather are combined + layered, became pieces of desire + intrigue.

image

Since the launching of her label with photographer Patrick Robyn in 1985, Ann Demeulemeester, part of the ’Antwerp Six’, the influential group of designers including Dries Van Noten, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs + Marina Yee, this 2000 page book will tediously reveal the designer’s creative process while describing the details of the fashion house she left behind just under a year ago.

image

And in true Demeulemeester style, the book will have a black cover with the preface written by Demeulemeester’s friend + muse Patti Smith.  I can’t wait to snatch a copy of my own.

Older Studio: Intelligently Functional With Tailoring + Textural Minimalism

image

When you look at Older Studio‘s pieces, two things jump out at you – texture + form.  Created by Morten Thuesen, the pieces are not so much a collection on their own but rather new additions to the longstanding Older Studio ideal of not existing in succession, yet as part of an ongoing assessment of sartorial femininity.

image

The label represents minimalism in the best way possible, by creating silhouettes that if the wearer were wearing nothing but lip balm as the only accessory, the clothes would still stand out.  Take the track suit above for instance, with surprising tapered harem pants + a high boatneck.  And who doesn’t love a flirtation with length, beautifully noted in the dress above + the skirts below?

image

Referring to modern woman’s need to be equipped with functional wardrobe necessities, Older Studio creates pieces that embrace understatement as means to develop novel expressions.  Then you have the use of provocative fabrics + innovative materials which add that extra touch to solemn shapes, synonymous with Older Studio’s signature.

Hunger’s Latest Young Blood Series Is All About Texture

image

image

Sometimes the sense of touch seems to outweigh that of sight or sound.  There’s nothing like the sensation of feeling the fabric of a sleeve, lapel or a crease between your fingers.  But I’m not going to get to touchy-feely here as the mix of textures is what kills in the latest ‘Young Blood’ series for Hunger Magazine, shot by Max Liebenstein + styled by Alex van der Steen.

Above, the model wears a knit DKNY sleeveless top under a fabulous Poelo coat.  On the left below, you have an overcoat in wool with leather accents by Koonhor, a turtleneck by Azzedine Alaia + shorts by Cody Ross.   To the right, you have a light grey turtleneck by Barbara Bui under a sweatshirt by A.F. Vandervorst + a skirt by Leka.

image

What I love about this look below is the mix of patterns + obviously texture. Here the model wears an overcoat by Tommy Hilfiger, a shirtdress by Koonhor, a polo by Franziska Fox + a skirt by Georgine.
