Here’s fashion film ‘RHIÉ 2014- THE PURGATORY OF MONOTONY’ by Ace Norton, another one of my favorites from this year’s Berlin Fashion Film Festival. A Gold winner for Best Fashion, in the film you witness actress Sonja Kinski partake in various surrealist scenarios. But seriously though, her voice could not be more perfect for such a project.
Here are a few of my favorite scenes from the film:
The first time I saw the jewelry from the MACHAMBRE BY JUYEON collection, especially these BEZEL earrings above, I was starstruck. ’How clever,’ I thought,’ having seen several watch iterations by so many artists before. Yet, with the collection taking it’s cue from the instinctive curiosity about time, it was only natural to focus on the watch, its construction + its function.
Inspired by ordinary objects that are easily seen around us for every season, via a collaboration with GOD, LOVE DESIGN, the watch was considered a functional tool that indicates intangible time physically by designer Juyeon Choi. Yet, by deconstructing the watch, with removing its face, gears + strap, leaving only the bezel, recreates the watch’s functionality to indicate intangible time abstractly.
Leaving no room for reinterpretation, the BEZEL NECKLACE above is all about the details – Notice how the side bar is silver while the rest of the necklace is in gold? Briliant!
The jewelry from the MACHAMBRE BY JUYEON collection is available in solid brass, 18k gold plate or 18k silver plate at Wowcracy. Expected delivery will be in September.
[The 2014 winners of the Berlin Fashion Film Festival were announced yesterday + throughout the week, I’ll be posting my favorites.]
Ever think about what your first kiss feels like? Does your ‘Ex’ come to mind as if to think, ‘Wow, the last person I did this with was…”? What about, ‘The last person I did this with was that guy or girl I bumped into on my way to the restroom.’ Or, do you just lose yourself in the moment, feeling his or her tongue caressing more than the tongue in your mouth? Well imagine witnessing the first kiss by many different couples, in fashion film ‘First Kiss’ by Tatia Pilieva, this year’s winner for BEST IDEA at the Berlin Fashion Film Festival.
Styled by WREN with music by Soko, it’s funny how these ‘kissers’ try to shed any shyness + just go for it. One girl tells the other girl, ‘why don’t we just look at each other’ whereas many other couples just start talking to one another, at a close proximity, wedged by giggling, moving in closer + closer.
Eventually, the couple’s engage in their first kiss. Some of the kisses start out slow + tender, but then turning very passionate whereas others just stayed the same, which makes you question, “Which kisses were more intimate?”
All I kept thinking was, “I wonder which couples are going to hook up after a kiss like that?”
Wake up + smell more than just the roses with this video by David de los Santos Gil. This timelapse video of opening flowers was made possible by nearly nine months of work + 50,000 photographs. Too bad the music is so bad-I strongly suggest you watch it on mute.
For #FlashbackFriday, jump start your weekend with trippy film ‘Blond SuperFreak Steals The Magic Brain’. Originally intended to be a music video for a Flaming Lips song about LSD, it in turn, became to be this magical film project. Of course, leave it up to Flaming Lips front man Wayne Coyne to round up Miley Cyrus + Moby for it, which just punctuates the film’s psychedelic weirdo factor.
Here’s how Coyne described it to HUNGER TV:
“Moby is an evil, power-hungry cult leader. He wants the world’s most valuable (according to our story) psychedelic supernatural possession… John F. Kennedy’s brain…. the brain contains the original formula for the drug LSD!!!”
Coyne continues to explain that Miley Cyrus is in possession of this “magic brain” and Moby summons a “nymph Manson girl-type blonde superfreak” – who we might add is naked throughout – to steal back the brain. The superfreak finds Cyrus passed out from a “drug-induced coma” + upon waking to find the brain gone, completely freaks out + enlists a “burned-face Santa and a lesbian Bigfoot (that are hovering in a nearby spaceship)” to hunt down this evil blonde super freak. All this while the Flaming Lips are “disguised as rainbows, mushrooms + flowers watching from the sky room where a giant diamond explosion happens.”
