Finally, the wait is over!

Here’s Alexander Wang’s fashion film featuring Chris Kattan as Mango from Saturday Night Live + rapper + choreographer Sharaya J.  The plot involves Mango coming back from the arctic, as Alexander Wang has asked him to be in his video but the truth is, he is to star in Sharaya J’s video, as a back-up dancer, no less.  The horror!  Of course, Mango will not be upstaged by anyone + battles Sharaya to her song ‘Shut It Down’.  With cameos by Behati Prinsloo, The New York Housewives of New York City Sonja Morgan, Sean Avery + Bazaar’s Derek Blasberg + Mango lines too funny to dismiss, there’s no denying Wang loves to have fun.

Enjoy!

Here are some of my favorite Mango lines:

Mango to Asst. Rudy:  ’Please.  Here.  Take Constance (Mango’s Shih Tzu) to the cleaners – she smells like Shia LaBeouf’s loofah sponge.’

Sonja: ‘Behati will do your makeup.’  Mango: ‘Gesundheit.’

Mango:  ’Sometimes I worry about my worry lines, I get more worry lines.’

Mango:  ’Derek Blasberg, why are you everywhuh?’

15 Folds Has Figured Out The Right Way To Display Animated GIF Art

Quite often, animated GIF art, is displayed online which in essence sounds about right, considering the type of art it is, if not, on television or large projection screens.

image

Wish You Were here by Quentin Jones

But art collective15Folds, believes it’s quite the opposite, especially for ‘Everything All At Once’, their recent London exhibition (ended May 29) which allowed visitors to view artworks via a custom-designed app on a smart phone or tablet using augmented reality, which is a first in using this kind of technology in a gallery setting.

image

Located in the Lyst Space in east London’s Hoxton Square, the gallery space was filled with large format QR codes.

Visitors then held their smart phones or tablets up to the codes, having downloaded a custom-made app designed by developers Plague Projects, in order to see the gifs by 20 contemporary artists hover in front of the walls on their screens, as seen above.

A lot of the the artworks in the exhibition included China Will Save the World With a Female Army by Kim Asendorfs, which features female soldiers’ faces being flipped upside-down ‘to prevent agents from falling in love’, Wish You Were here by Quentin Jones features images of travel destinations + scantily clad women flashing behind the painted words ‘wish you were here’ + artwork by Natalia Stuyk, where primary colours organize themselves around a moving black line (above).

The Eye by Matthew Stone + Joe Currie

The collective wanted to create an offline experience that was more sympathetic to their original context, but without the distraction of surrounding websites, open web browser tabs, incoming emails + push notifications, which can be very annoying + discouraging to the viewer to truly appreciate the art.

15Folds was frustrated by other presentations of animated gifs, which are often converted into MOV files + played on television screens hung like paintings.

15Folds.com, founded by Margot BowmanJolyon Varley and Sean Frank as an ongoing online project in which leading creatives are invited to make original GIF art in response to a given theme.

‘An in real life (IRL) exhibition of gifs in a physical space gives an opportunity for the work to be appreciated for what it is rather than as a commodity to be reflagged,’ said 15Folds. ‘The use of augmented reality restores a sense of wonder in the way these works are reviewed.’

Wouldn’t it be interesting to experience art this way but outdoors?  Maybe P.S.1 should consider it for it’s ‘Warm-up’?

A CFDA Shakedown on Nowness.com

As if having John Waters as tonight’s presenter for The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awards isn’t enough, NOWNESS went ahead + enlisted filmmaker + frequent NOWNESS contributor Clara Cullen to create ‘Shakedown The Swarovski Awards’.  This is the first film ever to be commissioned exclusively by CFDA + what a start!

Taking a page from French literary classic ’Les Fables de La Fontaine’Cullen cast six dancers in handcrafted animal masks to take part in a playful dance-off, wearing designs by the nominees including the streetwear cult of Shayne Oliver’s Hood by Air to Wes Gordon.  As to how Cullen arrived at each animal’s moves, she tells NOWNESS, “Each routine corresponds to the identity that I had in mind for the designers + the personality of the animal.”  By collaborating with set + costume designer Andy Byers of Isabella Rossellini’s ‘Green Porno’ series, Cullen achieved a film with a retro feel + contemporary wit.  ’I wanted to contrast high fashion with a dorky, somewhat naïve idea,’ Cullen says.

I love, love, love Iggy Azalea‘s voice + phrasing + Ariana Grande‘s voice is tremendous, + in music video for ‘Problem’ above, a duo like this couldn’t have been so perfect.  Sadly, I have problems with Grande’s lack of choreography + styling.

For any stylists out there, please, please, pleeze help Grande with her wardrobe – she needs to take more risks, especially with a voice like hers, destined for greatness.  Pairing up with Azalea is a step in the right direction but otherwise, I’m tired of Ariana’s saccharin sexy looks that are too boring + predictable.  Sure she looks like she’s twelve, but hooking-up with the likes of Iggy, you need to bring a little more than just your voice.  I know, I know, we just watched a video, that normally carries a concept, but seriously, there’s really nothing different here other than the half naked boys around her.  Maybe, Grande should just steal from others like RiRi does?!  Technically, it’s not a bad thing, but then again, step it up, put your own spin on it gurl + be original!

Now tell me, where’s the remix?

Enjoy!

You Won’t Need Much Convincing To Cop Lomography’s New Instant Camera

image

Lomography, who prides itself on innovative + experimental photography, launched a Kickstarter campaign for its first instant camera, the Lomo’Instant, that you just can’t miss.  Besides the four different designs (above) it comes in – the Sanremo Edition, Black Edition, White Edition, + the Kickstarter Special Edition – the Lomo’Instant Camera is jam packed with cool features.

image

Reasons why to cop a Lomo’Instant Camera yesterday:

  • Advanced Lens System: One built-in Wide Angle lens with 0.4m closest focusing distance, plus additional Fisheye + Portrait lens attachments available.
  • 3 Shooting Modes: Shoot photos with auto-flash on for immediate great results, or take direct control with manual shooting modes (with flash + without flash).
  • Unlimited Multiple Exposures: Combine multiple shots on one frame for amazing experimental instants.
  • Infinite Long Exposures: Perfect for low light, dawn/dusk + nighttime shooting. Get artistic with light painting + create beautiful light streaked instants!
  • Color Gels: Transform your photos with color (in a flash!) by shooting with fun color gels!
  • Easy 2 Step-Focusing: Quickly get the shot you want.
  • Uses Fujifilm Instax Mini Film: The most widely available instant film on Earth.
  • Tripod Mount + Cable Release Thread: Advanced extras for ultra-impressive instant photography!

With still about a month to go, the Kickstarter campaign has already raised more than three times its goal of $100,000.  Sadly, all of the Early Bird Launch Deals have all been snatched by eager backers, but don’t fret my pet, the White or Black Edition for $79 + the Sanremo or Kickstarter Special Edition for $99 are still available to order.

True, it blows that the cameras are scheduled to ship in November, but think of it as an early holiday gift for yourself or another special someone. The retail price for the camera is expected to be between $120 + $150, which is totes cheap, considering how much this one camera can do.

For #ThrowbackThursday, here’s music video ‘Pass The Dutch’ featuring Asher Roth‘s lyrics varnished over Chuck Indian’s endless Tumblr-like scroll of party pics, animals, + psychedelia, with an old school beat.  Talk about a great mix of Roth’s seamless lyrics with random images that speak to all of social media, while going down the rabbit hole.

Enjoy!
