For spring, designer Francesca Valorsa created the ‘Mirrors’ collection which explores the blurring of masculine and feminine… an awkward beauty.  Comprised of pieces with simple silhouettes yet complex construction, including ruffles + floral appliqués created by pleats, as well as texture, the wearer doesn’t have to depend solely on accessories to accentuate their look.

Introducing Moments, Missoni’s New Online & Print Magazine

image

Once, Rosita Missoni, when asked by Vogue to describe the Missoni style, she replied, ‘It’s a lifestyle more than a fashion,’ and that is exactly what ‘Moments’ is all about.  ’Moments’, Missoni’s new online + print magazine,  will be divided into five sections – Stories, Visions, Making Magic, Now On + The Place To Be.  Contributions from poets, writers, artists + designers from around the world, will be featured, creating an online diary about the world of Missoni.  The magazine’s hand-drawn elements, give it that true diary feel.

Created in collaborations with other creatives from all fields, ‘Moments’,  is meant to ‘open the world of Missoni, characterized by curioisity, warmth + art in all its forms – creativity, movement, originality + the spirit of the present.’  It will be just as exciting to see how it evolves.

Favorite Versace Spring 2014 Looks

For spring, Versace‘s collection had it all –  rocker chick looks with street chic, including floral-embossed leather skinny jeans + pastels + florals, from a long barely there chiffon gown with cut-out, pasted-on florals to patent leather skirt suits. Yet, the standout piece for me was the harness chain jewelry worn under or over looks throughout the collection.

Up and Out on Nowness.com

Directed by Joshua Stocker + styled by NOWNESS regular Agata Belcen, the conundrum of what to wear is addressed in the short film above, featuring pieces by Miu Miu, Meadham Kirchoff + Alexander McQueen.  Model Molly Smith changes outfits at a blink’s pace, as her indecision sans pause is caught on film through Stocker’s surreal lens.

This being Stocker’s first fashion film, he told NOWNESS, ‘I wanted to create a film that felt seamless, without the cuts interfering with the experience.  Collaborating with a stylist, we worked out how each piece integrated into the narrative, whether it is a dress that falls to the floor, or a skirt which is pulled up to reveal a new outfit.’

For Spring, The Strength Of Woman Roars With Conviction At Prada

image

For spring, Muiccia Prada celebrated  a woman’s strength by making many bold statements.  There were lots of graphic shapes + bursts of color, interspersed by a woman’s femininity with emphasis on the bosom,  with keyholes cut into bright, solid shifts bedecked with chunky embroideries +  jeweled external bras.  Prada told WWD, ‘I’m fixated with the idea of women of strength.  There is a necessity to be strong, visible, fighters, + this is an encouragement to be out there + to do something.’  But to set the stage for such a revolution off right, Muiccia enlisted the talent of six contemporary artists, including street artists STINKFISH + MESA, to create murals depicting strong women, (inspired by Diego Rivera + other Mexican muralists).

The portraiture could’ve been used ad nauseam but it constructively became the leifmotif of the collection, with the bold, colorful faces on dresses, coats + skirts.  Some were printed, jeweled + in fur intarsias, merged with high-gloss, demonstrative embroideries, colorblocking + intricate cuts.

To further emphasize a woman’s strengths, models wore sporty leg warmers + Prada’s version of TEVA sandals (Although perceived as an ugly shoe, I’ve always thought, in the right color with the right pair of socks, would make them look cool.)

Accessories were certain not to be left out, as portraits were also painted on them, as shown below, with striking results.
