Tod’s Hot To Trot Fantasy Courtesy Of David LaChapelle

image

None other than photographer David LaChapelle knows how to integrate pop culture + equestrian motifs so seamlessly, with incredible wit.  Featuring Tod’s latest ‘Sella’ bag, in dreamlike sitches, the inspiration of traditional equestrian craft comes through with curved leather accents, similar to those of saddlery, in form + embellishment.  Extravagance is heightened further with blue crocodile + yellow leather rounded or drawn out shapes.

Gotta love the genius + crazy imagination of LaChapelle – no two pics ever look alike.

Wake Up With A Lot Of Léa Seydoux, Full Front + Center

image

I am so in love with this shot of a barely dressed Léa Seydoux, in a transparent chiffon cape by Alexandre Vauthier, as cover girl for the upscale men’s adult monthly, Lui magazine. With the cover shot by Mario Sorrenti + scheduled to make a comeback on newsstands tomorrow, Sept 5th, it’s hoped to be around for a lot longer.

Lui, French for ‘him’, will have Numéro’s founder Jean-Yves Le Fur to thank, for breathing new life into the famous Seventies erotic magazine.  This time however, Lui is going to be packaged as a lifestyle publication, including the revival of some old sections including shopping section “La défonce du consommateur,” or “The consumer’s smash,” in English, in hopes of gaining female readers.

With 60 pages worth of high end advertisers like Dior Homme + Chanel, such a resurrection couldn’t happen at a better time with a stronger interest in mens magazines + mens fashion, with the likes of GQ + Mr. Porter in the world.  Yet, besides all that, with photographers like Terry Richardson, Mikael Jansson + Glen Luchford adding their talents, Lui is sure to cause a lot of buzz + gain new admirers along the way.

Don’t you think Léa looks like a young Catherine Deneuve on the cover?  Gorgeous!

Loving David Lynch, is nothing new for me + this music video for ‘Pinky’s Dream’ just reinforces that fact.  Featuring Karen O. (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs), you’re quickly transported into a film noir fantasy – full of pointy heels, cigarettes, cute boys + a neat little chignon – with her seductively haunting vocals.

My favorite scene has to be the last –  you see the backs of our male + female characters, under a pagoda style umbrella, walking away – the different patterns + textures shown, scored high marks for me.

Goldfrapp: Annabel on Nowness.com

What a beautiful short film.  For Goldfrapp‘s latest single, ‘Annabel’, off their sixth album ‘Tales of Us’, instead of a music video, in this short, shot by Alison Goldfrapp’s partner Lisa Gunning, we are taken on a young androgynous boy’s journey of exploration of his femininity.  With Alison’s haunting vocals accompanied by acoustic + string instruments, the song builds along with the boy’s happiness in being free to be whom he wants to be.

Each song on ’Tales Of Us’ is named after a different person – in this case, ‘Annabel‘ was inspired by Kathleen Winter’s 2010 novel of the same name, which follows a hermaphrodite child who is forced into taking on a male identity in 1960s Canada.  Luckily, this ‘Annabel’ doesn’t have to make such harsh choices.

Lindsey Wixson, with her goldfish lips + gap-toothed smile, is one of my favorite models + having her in this fashion film makes it that much better.  Art directed by David Havstein + Malthe Madsen, featuring the ‘Windows’ SS/14 collection by designer + friend Freya Dalsjø, her inspiration is quite clear – Japanese architecture’s minimalism, with it’s special ability to cut straight to the bone + the effortless ease of putting on flip-flops + a bathrobe in the a.m.  Freya told PURPLE she wanted to give this collection a naked, vital + optimistic look that simultaneously allows for a sense of fragility, which she successfully accomplished, using clean lines + geometric shapes.  The music, ‘Box Caisson’ by Yves De Mey, perfectly accompanies the Lindsey throughout the film.

For #ThrowbackThursday, here’s Prada‘s ‘Trembled Blossoms’, the first fashion film of it’s kind by a luxe fashion house, showcasing actual pieces from a collection – specifically shoes, a dress + a bag, from Prada’s SS/08 collection.

In this animated short, directed by James Lima, illustrations by James Jean (below) set the tone, accentuating the elaborate curves, patterns + characters

that personified Prada’s S/S 08 line.

Here are some pics depicting the collection:

Love this little fashion film showing cool colorful graphic patterns by NICO (‘Night Is Coming On’), the Parisian women’s luxe sportswear line with a range centered on t-shirts + sweatshirts, in classic cuts.  Founded in 2009 by designer Kalou Dubus, Action Painting was the inspiration for this AW 13/14 collection.

Besides, what’s not to love with lookbook images as amazing as these?:
