Ricci’s Strong Woman Shines

NRCYT

Nina Ricci’s RTW Fall collection seems to have been modeled after the woman that is always in control. She has this way about her where she doesn’t really care who’s around, she’ll comfortably wear something sheer with no apologies. She likes to have fun with her clothes, by pairing bright colors together + mixing textures.

She’s all about luxury but knows when to ‘roll up’ her sleeves + get to work, with masculine infused looks like a skirt that looks like it’s made out of a man’s suit fabric, embellished with embroidered sequins.

Meet ‘LIKE’ Button’s More Emotional Friends

facebook-emoji-reactions

Finally, Facebook has realized that we’re all a complicated bunch, full of mixed emotions, needing more than a ‘LIKE’ button to tell the world how we really feel. So after a test run in some countries, Facebook announced today that the ‘LIKE’ button will now officially have a drop-down menu, with different emotions to choose from, including anger + wow.

I myself, along with many other Facebook members, often commented to things with the likes (HA!) of, “Too bad there’s not a HATE button on here!”, but of course, that would be considered too severe to the ‘powers that be’. These new ‘Likes’ are even going to be referred to as ‘Reactions’.

As seen below, when you hover over the ‘LIKE’ button, a pop up will appear offering six different reactions, known as “Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad + Angry”.

But, the best part of it all is, THEY’RE ANIMATED! Anytime you hover over any ‘Reaction’, something happens like the GIF above.

Now, don’t be tempted to REACT differently to all of your old posts, if you can stand it?!

Ashish Parties With Sequined Colors

ASCYT

Ashish delivered yet again for Fall. With models in monochrome looks, complete with cotton candy afros, the woman Ashish Gupta had in mind when designing this collection, was one that definitely knows how to party + always makes the ONLY entrance.

Everything was covered in sequins, which turned me into a moth fleeting to the light, no matter the consequences. There were as many pantsuits as there were dresses. Of course, I’m not referring to a typical suit + jacket ensemble but rather matching separates that could work for evening just as well. Now mind you, I’m a strong believer in wearing sequins other than just for evening.

There was a pajama set in holographic Lavender, a dead ringer for Serenity, one of Pantone’s 2016 color of the year, while an embellished denim jacket, paired with wide leg jeans, which made for a strong statement as well. Of course, the bomber jacket, a consistent season favorite, made its appearance, with both sequins + dangling crystals, paired with acid green tapered leg pants. For me, the holographic pink look below is my fave of all the pant looks, hands down!

As for the dresses, they all varied in length + variety. You had spaghetti strap mini dresses, a maxi gown with a deep plunging neckline, while a magenta number was all about a lot of leg, with a high side slit starting from the last of three bows, giving the impression they were holding the whole thing together.

So why present this collection in such a fashion? Well according to Gupta, he told VOGUE RUNWAY how he was initially inspired by a box of crayons, then added: “I thought it would be lovely to have each girl in one color, head to toe. And then I was looking at ’80s luxury couture—a little bit mumsy but made hyper-textural. There’s like 50 different types of fringe in the collection—crystals, beads, sequins, the works.”

Uniqlo + KAWS Amazing Collaboration

12716699_885446664901526_1490593352_n-640x640

When I found out about this collaboration, what immediately came to mind was, “Should I stand in line now?”, because let’s face it, this is going to be ridic!

Just this morning, Uniqlo’s Creative Director NIGO + New York-based Artist KAWS, shared this logo on their personal Instagram accounts. Lucky for us, BLACK RAINBOW managed to find the following images of shirts set to drop this Summer. All I can ask is that they offer more than just these tees, but if not, who am I to be picky?!

Stay tuned for more.

Roksanda Is All About Ruffles And Frills

ricyt

Every time Roksanda has a new collection out, I get super excited, as she never disappoints. Sure, you might see a repeat of her signature geometric shapes, using color blocking or a mix of textures, but her designs always have new life breathed into them for every collection. The RTW Fall collection was riddled with so many textures, I just wanted to push my hand through my screen + feel all of it.

Velvet, suede, lurex, silk, Persian Lamb + tied fur collars, made quite an impression throughout. A royal blue velvet pant suit with faint pink piping made my heart swell, as quickly as did the over-the-knee velvet boots in various colors. Another sweet velvet number, was a short empire dress, with ribbon detailing + plunging neckline, granting the wearer just enough sex appeal without being vulgar.

Suede killed it as a patterned maxi skirt, paired with a sweater + fur collar, while a skinny belt made a long dark periwinkle blue coat pop. And how could anyone dismiss all the silk ruffle madness throughout, especially in that silk maxi plissé dress? And note, this was the first time everyone got to see her new handbag collection, which I’ll be discussing later.

Prints were another story. Some looks showed burnt out velvet on black, in a color that looked like it was on fire. There was line drawing print featuring faces, cats, half moons, sitting nudes + mens faces, paired with a pink ruffled collar tied by a black velvet ribbon. For her evening looks, she had an all-over squiggly pattern on tulle that just looked stunning against bare skin.

Although some might complain the collection was too retro, that’s the direction in which many are going, thankfully, especially that of the Seventies! Overall, I think this Roksanda collection was made with the modern woman in mind, that could do anything in a dress, no matter the length, be it going to work or going out. Plus, with Roksanda using otk suede boots with a lot of the looks, made wearing pants or tights obsolete.

Was Your ‘First Kiss’ Like This?

Ever think about what your first kiss feels lik, when kissing someone new? Does your ‘Ex’ come to mind as if to think, “Wow, the last person I did this with was…”? What about, “The last person I did this with was that guy or girl I bumped into on my way to the restroom.” Or, do you just lose yourself in the moment, feeling his or her tongue caressing more than the tongue in your mouth? Well, imagine witnessing the first kiss by many different couples, made up of strangers, in fashion film ‘First Kiss’ by Tatia Pilieva, this year’s winner for BEST IDEA at the Berlin Fashion Film Festival, in celebration of Valentine’s Day.

Styled by WREN with music by Soko, it’s funny how these ‘kissers’ try to shed any shyness + just go for it. One girl tells the other girl, ‘why don’t we just look at each other’ whereas many other couples just start talking to one another, at close proximity, wedged by giggling, moving in closer + closer.

Eventually, the couple’s engage in their first kiss. Some of the kisses start out slow + tender, but then turning very passionate whereas others just stayed the same, which makes you question, “Which kisses were more intimate?”

All I kept thinking was, “I wonder which couples are going to hook up after a kiss like that?”

Enjoy!
