A Unique Way For Guys To Wear Shades

shmancy3

I know, I know, they’re not THOSE kind of shades. Yet, you must admit how cool this digital print of blinds, shades or shutters, looks so good. Looking exactly how the shadow of blinds would look on a wall, this geometric print is surely one that would prove to be timeless, mostly because of the classic silhouette of the items throughout this post.

Part of designer Elian Nargassi’s ‘INSIDE/OUT’ Spring/Summer 2016 collection, which “revolves around inside versus outside in terms of the different spaces within a home in contrast to its exterior,” as told to NOT JUST A LABEL,  is due in part to contemplating a home’s structure + foundations + segmented traditional patterns, creating new fractured silhouettes. Nargassi’s exploration of the impact of light filtered through shutters + the imprint it leaves, lent itself to the creation of this digital print, for both cottons + knits. Of course, since it’s a digital print, it will NEVER fade!

The ‘Mens Shades Shirt‘ shown above, a short sleeve button down dress shirt, has a regular yet slim fit. Featuring a classic collar, a classic button through placket with white buttons + a rounded hem, this shirt looks great with these matching ‘Mens White Printed Shorts‘ below. Made of a combo of Italian linen + lycra, these shorts have 2 front pockets + 2 welt pockets on the back, a zip fastening fly, a single button fastening to the waistband + belt loops. Yet, I can also see a guy rocking this shirt with white shorts, black or bright green joggers, bermuda shorts (as seen below), in black or red, or even a pair of jeans, with an unfinished hem + cool kicks.

Now this ‘Mens Shades Tank Top‘ has me ‘ooing + ahhing’ paired with these black bermuda shorts, also by Nargassi. A muscle tank top, with a digital print on front + all black on the back side, looks great both by itself or over a short sleeve button down. It would be interesting to see it under a contrasting patterned long sleeve button down, with rolled up sleeves.

Finally, this white short sleeved ‘Mens Shades T-shirt‘, made of Italian cotton with a regular fit, features a round neckline + rounded hem. As with all of Nargassi’s tops here, this tee would look great on its own or over a shirt.

In truth, these tops + bottom make quite a statement, considering their minimalist design + silhouette.

Kenzo Brings Out The Animal In Sailor Moon

kzcytkzcy1

According to VOGUE RUNWAY, the Kenzo RTW Fall show notes referenced Sailor Moon, the iconic anime character, while pledging allegiance to American pop culture, in their own colorful way. Sailor Moon’s nautical look seemed to have been deconstructed + put back together as separates if not, as one whole piece. A lot of the different dresses throughout the collection, displayed a sense of demure yet sexy sweetness, with their high collars + sometimes, delicate floral patterns. Others, however, added some edge in patent leather over a blouse with gorgeous balloon sleeves, cinched three quarters of the way.

Sailor Moon was noted in the various dresses that came down the runway, complete with ruffles + pleats. Her uniform however, was updated in several ways including making the jacket a dress, with a toggle button of sorts across the front paired with a button down shirt underneath.

And no Kenzo collection could be imagined without patterns, + as usual, there were plenty to marvel over. There were floral patterned jackets paired with patent leather cigarette pants, with moto stitching details. Other times, you would find the same style pant with top, yet this time, in a colorful zebra striped pattern. Just the same, this same pant would be paired with a different patterned top. This animal print also found its way onto boots + shoes, but more interestingly, as the lapel to a short floral patterned trench coat or a stunning bright lavender Mongolian lamb pant suit.

WANTED: T-Shirt With Smeared Lips

wantedcy1

Wouldn’t this tee just fit right in, amongst your many other fashionable pieces? I think so. Just look at the genius of its powerful simplicity.

wantedcy2

Of course, created by none other than Maison Margiela, this ‘Cotton T-shirt With Pocket’ takes the image of the all too famous red lips, but, smears their lipstick, begging you to ask, “Was he/she blotting their lips + suddenly, it smeared, by the pull of their lover to steal a kiss?” Yet, no matter what the reason for the smeared lips, this image certainly elevates red lips to a whole other level. And besides the design, it’s the kind of top that would compliment pretty much anything, for day or night.

Maison Margiela’s ‘Cotton T-shirt) is available for purchase here.

Valentino’s Fall Ballerinas

valcyt

There’s nothing like nude tulle to get me in the right mood, especially when handled so beautifully by Valentino. For its RTW Fall collection, creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri + Pierpaolo Piccioli, dispelled the notion of how fashion is just about the clothes, but rather, emphasizing the ‘something’ much greater, where the clothes happen to play a role in. This Valentino show however, was about ballet, or more specifically, the modern dance movement + its “happenings,” according to VOGUE RUNWAY.

valcy1

With the likes of Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham + The Russian Ballet, serving as inspiration, some of the looks looked like they came straight off the stage if not the dance studio, whereas some of the models, looked like delicate pieces of vellum just blowing in the wind, complete with crystal embroidered decadence, scattered all over nude tulle.

Turtlenecks, always a classic, received special treatment. One look, had a cashmere turtleneck, that looked like it was attached to a dress made of metallic fringe. Other times, you see nude turtlenecks in jersey, underneath spaghetti strap midi dresses, in bright colors, like the golden dress below. But there were also many grey ribbed turtlenecks + black turtlenecks underneath beautifully embellished dresses, particularly the one below, that looks like studded white plastic.

Outerwear had a broad range of textures + silhouettes, including a patent leather long coat , a pastel colored fur patchwork jacket + an oversized blazer, paired with a metallic pleated maxi skirt that is still a trend going strong into this season.

valcy2valcy3

“We always think fashion is cultural, not just about delivering clothes,” said Chiuri to VOGUE RUNWAY. “We want this show to be about living your moments, feeling each moment uniquely. I really love fashion. This job we do is a good opportunity to describe the time we’re in,” + who couldn’t be so grateful for such talents to create such wearable fantasy?

Sonia Rykiel Triumphs With Fur + Prints

SRCYT

If I haven’t mentioned it before, Sonia Rykiel is one of my all time favorite designers. Her designs always have sex appeal with ease, which is one way to describe her RTW Fall collection. The collection, one might say, was a play of textures + prints, as well as silhouettes. One of the textures that took center stage was fur, including Mongolian lamb + fox. Fox fur, however, appeared most, on pom pom toed sandals, obnoxious sleeves on knits + jackets, as well as on coats lapels. Another texture that looked terrific, was one made to look like lace but actually, it was a floral cut out print in shiny jet black. Other noted textures included tweeds, bouclés, knits, denim, suede + lace.

As for prints, no Sonia Rykiel collection could be without her signature stripes, perfectly orchestrated into several looks by designer Julie de Libran. Sonia’s stripes where sprinkled throughout the collection, sometimes on tights + other times, on tops + skirts. Yet, an interesting homage to these stripes came in the form of a cool cropped sweater, with wider stripes embellished entirely in large paillettes, paired with wide leg cream trousers. A print that stole the show however, was one by collage artist Maggie Cardelús, showing the faces of Rykiel’s women-house founder, Sonia, her daughter, Nathalie, + Nathalie’s daughter, Lola, alongside De Libran + Cardelús, + many combinations thereof using a cutout technique, as reported by VOGUE RUNWAY. This unique print made its way onto a leather coat, leather platform boots, + on silk tiered dresses. Python also made an appearance on platform boots + the body of a jacket with fur sleeves.

SRCY1KIM_1245KIM_0771SRCY2

The overall silhouettes varied, especially amongst the range of dresses, from long to short. The long included tube skirts, silk + light denim tiered maxi dresses. The short appeared as sheer mini dresses, patchwork denim mini, along with a pleated mini. Of the pants present, most of them were wide leg, in different fabrics like denim, while a beautifully sequined blue pant suit, piped in black, killed it with cool sass.

Zuhair Murad’s Glitzy RTW Fall Collection

ZMCYT

Inspired by Nineties supermodels + Las Vegas by night, it would be hard to fathom how these two things oozing in excess, could work for daytime. Then again, there are no rules when it comes to fashion these days. According to WWD, Zuhair Murad’s RTW Fall collection was to represent the culmination of his efforts to expand the daywear component of his ready-to-wear line. Regardless of its high demand, as mentioned by Murad, the collection proved to be very wearable. Of course, many might disagree that he succeeded, with his many pieces more worthy of a night out.

zmcy1

True, wearing a lace jumpsuit or a black sheer gown with colorful embroidered 3-D butterflies, might cause a few raised eyebrows or two at brunch, but who wouldn’t agree how easily a tunic over either piece, could resolve that problem? And what’s wrong with wearing a sequined chevron striped pajama suit, with an exposed leg, thanks to a high front slit? Nothing, right?!

But for the less daring, there were many looks that worked within the confines of daywear. There were plenty of mini skirt dresses + leather pants. An obnoxiously huge fur lapeled patent leather belted coat, totally caught my eye as a perfect piece to throw on over jeans. Velvet also made an indent here, as in many other RTW Fall collections, as pants with a high front slit, paired with a Baroque detailed belted jacket, complete with gilded edges.

Overall, Murad created a ready-to-wear line suitable for a woman not afraid to take risks, even if it’s just daytime.
