Ladies, Accessorize To Terrorize With These Ten Rings For Your Summer Nights Out
With Summer already cozying its way into our hearts, that means one thing for us ladies – wearing more skin baring looks or plainly less clothing, out to clubs, festivals + or the many wonderful warehouse or rooftop locations throughout Brooklyn. And unless you’ve been living under a rock during the past few months, I’m sure you couldn’t help but ignore finding articles on how easily us chicks get harassed in the EDM scene by ‘too grabby’ guys. So what’s a girl to do but accessorize to terrorize of course!
My weapon of choice is a ring that can expose it’s point, by either bending my finger or turning the ring in another direction, usually pointing upwards. So here are ten great choices to not only make your hands look chic but lethal just the same, to jab any guy who can’t seem to understand to stop touching you!
(L-R clockwise) 1- YUNUS & ELIZA Shard Ring made of Sterling silver plated titanium, looks like an ornate shield that melted just a bit, Luisaviaroma.com 2- PAMELA LOVE Champagne Diamond Ring is no surprise as Love’s jewelry always manages to charge up the warrior in all us girls. Handmade, this oxidized sterling silver tribal spike ring, with rows of tiny magnificent champagne diamonds is sure to mesmerize or terrorize, Bonadrag.com 3- LUIS MORAIS Double Spike Ring is simple yet pretty straightforward on 18k yellow gold featuring a front double spike design with polished finish, farfetch.com 4- STEPHEN WEBSTER Forget Me Not Ring made of Rhodium plated sterling silver is another ring to twist either end upwards to make your point get across, Luisaviaroma.com.
Now don’t let simplicity fool you like 5- MIRTA Line Ring completely handmade of polished sterling silver ring from a straight single sterling silver bar, Mirta + 6- RYAN STORER Silver Broken Ring designed to be worn on either the index or middle finger + sit across another, but varies with its slight curve, brownsfashion.com. For simple dramatics there’s 7- STEFFI – Ring – Oxidized in silver that looks like a geometrical structure just waiting to poke someone out of your way, vespoe.com + 8- BIJULES Solid Silver Isis Ring is a solid silver ring, designed to sit parallel to the length of the finger + can be squeezed to fit, brownsfashion.com.
Then we have the beauty of snakes. 9- NAGA Ring Amulet Snake Ring although designed for men, I comfortably wear mine on my pointer finger, since it has an adjustable ring size due to its open end. But the best parts are its perfectly ornate top sticking straight up + the Thai belief how the image of Naga is extremely powerful protecting the wearer from anything harmful + repel bad or evil spirits, etsy.com + 10- MARTHA ROTTEN Snake Ring handmade of lead free pewter with either Gray, Topaz, or Vitrail crystals, whose tail end is long enough to make a point if some jerk can’t seem to stay away, etsy.com.
The Sexy Martone Art Bike By Artist Shantell Martin
Black-ink doodles + words, scribbled all over white surfaces, is what made artist Shantell Martin a perfect fit in partnering with Artspace + Martone Cycling Co. to design the cool bike below. Not only does Martin ride her very own Martone bike all over New York, when you see her bespoke art bike, you can’t but help ask yourself, ‘ What took so long?’
At 26-lbs, this all-white Martone Cycling bike accented with an angular basket, red chain + Lucite pedals with Martin’s art is super sexy!
With urban cycling as her inspo, using black Sharpies to create her signature words including ‘Now’+ doodles on the bike, should inspire any lucky owner to want to ride it everywhere + everyday. For Shantell, the Martone cycles are beautiful, well made + the perfect canvas for her. But there’s no need to worry the bike will lose any of its artistic integrity to the elements as they’re covered in lacquer.
Martin told Wallpaper, ‘The word cycle for me represents an unbroken ring, a symbol of growing of understanding of moving forward – cycling is all of those things with the added motion of always moving forward + progressing.’
Now, Sharpie or not, each bike in the series is a unique work of art valued at $3,800, which, as a support of the arts, is pretty reasonable! The ‘Shantell Martin Bike’ is available for purchase at Artspace.

Haute Couture Footwear Gets A Lift From Hydraulics
Haute couture footwear is taken to a whole new level with sports technology in the form of hydraulics. For this collection, footwear designer Silvia Fado inspiration lied in functional design, with a strong influence of architecture + engineering. Take these Ring Hydraulic Heels, for instance. There’s a hydraulic system inside the heel developed with the industrial partner that is customizable according to one’s body weight, in order to control impact absorption.
With these Spring + Hinge Hydraulic Heels below, the artist used 3D scanning + 3D printing to add to the crafted work with a modern + technological aesthetic. Combining traditional making + rapid prototyping, this prototype shoe lovingly reminds me of a shoe on a wooden display stand. I also can’t deny how this shoe looks like its attached to the top of a shoe horn.
Lastly, the Spring Hydraulic Heels below, have a special hydraulic spring system to handle each step with industrial elegance.

The Haunting Trailer For ‘Amy’, The Documentary On Amy Winehouse
After much hype, here’s the trailer for ‘Amy’, the documentary on the genius that was Amy Winehouse. Sure to make you get goose bumps, jerk a tear or two or both, this film follows Amy’s short life + career. Tracing back to her childhood, her international rise to fame, her troubled yet all-consuming relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil, to finally her fatal struggles with addiction before her death from alcohol poisoning in 2011, this film’s haunting portrayal is sure to create new fans of such a unique musical legend like Winehouse.
Just hearing her singing voice glaze over the film clips, peppered with sound bites by friends + her, makes this trailer very powerful indeed.
Enjoy!

The Graphic Appeal of Masha Reva + Syndicate’s Volya Collection
When it comes to designer collaborations, the one between Ukranian designer Masha Reva + Syndicate never disappoints especially with their latest ‘Volya’ collection. Volya, which means freedom in Ukranian, expresses the winter of 2013, when the protest movement in Kiev, Ukraine, broke out.
Chaotic graphic elements symbolize the process of changes + the creation of a new country, in which most of Ukrainian people got directly involved. Strokes of bright color paired with black + white photorealistic imagery, give the pieces throughout the collection retro appeal with a modern edge. I love how each print looks like a different work of art, that’s politically charged.
The ‘Volya’ collection is available at sndct.com.
