Color + Shape Make These Bags ‘MUST HAVES’ ForFall

image

There’s no denying that when one sees that punch of color amongst the dark colors of Fall, all one can do is smile.  But what better way to do that than with accessories, especially when there this cool.  Enter the bags by Hong Kong label Matter Matters, inspired by Post Modernism, Art Deco, the school of Memphis + design recalling Bauhaus + Cubism, which is obvious from all the designs seen here.

Designer Flora Leung, a former graphic designer, believes the choice of forms + material are the essence of this first collection’s design.  Designs that are also influenced by the colors of David Hockney + Edward Hopper, it’s no shock how the mix of bright + muted colors seem to pop the way they do.  An added bonus of course, is the different shapes offered with their own unique touch.

This ‘Art Deco Clutch’ in seaform is a great example of taking Art Deco shapes yet with that contemporary sensibility.  Just the same though, this design + color choice is timeless, like all of Leung’s designs.

This ‘Pythagoras Blue’ purse is all about Pop Art with its exaggerated clasp + bottom buttons.  Of course, the bright yellow chain connected by brown leather is a great touch.

The ‘Shoulder Bucket Bag’ is just perfect in grey, with a cinching black belt near the top along with bright yellow chain strap combined with leather.  Let’s just assume the bag is doing us a favor + mimicking our own waistlines.

Loving Röyksopp & Robyn’s new music video for ‘Monument’ + the track, is sick.  The video, directed by Max Vitali, works in waves, starting with the complex inner workings of what looks like veins inside a body leading to a foreign space, then it breaks into the simplicity of Röyksopp & Robyn on a lit round surface, surrounded by black + suddenly, complex structures come alive by the drop of a pink shape, that look straight out of a K-hole.  This effect, truly augments the song’s emotional pull.  Monument’ is off the mini album ‘Do It Again’.

Enjoy!

RIP Robin Williams

I write this with the heaviest of hearts but Robin Williams passed away today.  To believe that such an actor, such a comedian is gone, is simply heartbreaking.  Robin has been a part of our lives + for many, from the very beginning.  He made us laugh with ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’, ‘Patch Adams’ + ‘The Birdcage’, made us believe in hope as Dr. Malcolm Sayers in ‘Awakenings’ while make us cringe with ‘One Hour Photo’.  And that was the beauty of Williams, his ability to take us along for the ride, with the guarantee you WERE going to be entertained + often, to feel.  Robin, the rare talent that made so many of us smile + laugh, will be sorely missed.

RIP Robin Wiliams.

Joan Of Arc Inspires High Drama For Fall

image

image

Joan of Arc is said to have been the inspiration behind this Fall collection by Afroditi Hera.  Joan was a woman who resorted to high drama to accentuate her defiance against every limitation placed on a woman in the Middle Ages, leading to her becoming an unlikely military cross dressing leader + finally, a living myth.  This strength Joan displayed is definitely present in the pieces shown here.  When I first saw this collection, it left me speechless.  Full of sculptural clothing + jewelry, juxtaposed by raw forms, you can’t but agree it is fine art.   For this season, Hera introduced pliable felt along with flowing fabrics + leather into the collection.  This lethal combination resulted in a material that was then ‘molded’ into a bustier (row 3), tailored into collars + crafted into necklaces to create structured outfits for body-con silhouettes.

Look at how effortlessly the raw form of the leather on the dress above, softens its straight lines.  The bustier, below center, is red-carpet ready, wouldn’t you agree?

Some of the forms appear to be based on pretty simple + straight forward designs but then, when you look to the back, there’s a twist.  Take the cropped top of the dress below, where its ends just meet at the collar, resulting in a triangular opening symmetrical to the V dip of the dress bottom.  It appears as if the model were wearing wings.image

Hera’s bracelets are all handmade out of wood + obnoxiously big, which I love.  Definitely a surprising accessory for evening.  I love how great they look over a black sheer sleeve.

It’s a miracle no celebrity has been shot wearing her designs – besides being red-carpet ready, they would look great as performance pieces too.  I can picture the bustiers on the likes of Brooke Candy + Beyoncé + the gown in row 2 on Cate Blanchett.

These pieces + more, from Hera’s Fall collection, are available for purchase at Wowcracy.

For #FlashbackFriday, to jumpstart your weekend off right, take a listen to ‘Banjee Hunt (Bjork x Angel X Remix)’.  Created by the sexy, mad talented, innovative + authentic GHE20G0THIK founder + DJ, Venus X, Bjork’s ‘Hunter’ is taken apart + reassembled to still make you want to sway to the original ‘Hunter’ or pick up the beats between Bjork’s vocals + start either to jiggle or just take it to the floor with a dip or both!

This is perfect for listening to while getting dressed to go out tonight, pre-gaming or hooking up!  Sick mix!

Enjoy!

For Fall, Step Out With Raoul

image

Shoes from Raoul’s Pre-fall collection can easily add that special touch to any look, especially with their golden heels.  Made with calf leather + a comfortable heel height, although not the highest heels, they’re still pretty sexy + can easily make the transition from the office to a night out.

The ‘Ribbon Sandal’ (upper L) with its adjustable strap, would look great with Fall’s sheer trend, whereas the ‘Pointed Wedge ’ (upper center) + the ‘Ribbon Pointed Loafer’ (upper R)  would pair nicely with a head-to-toe knit look.

With the ‘Lace Up Wedge’ (lower L), a bootie wedge sneaker hybrid of sorts, would put a different spin on any Sixties silhouette while the ‘T-Bar Sandal’ would look great with cropped front seamed pants + your favorite new sweater.  What about pairing one of Fall’s many crazy prints, in a variety of colorways with this ‘Ankle Wedge Boot’?

All of Raoul’s shoes seen here are available at my Zindigo Facebook Boutique

Here is the amazing central scene for ‘Nowhere’, dedicated to the late Pina Bausch, an extraordinary choreographer + artist, .  Created by Dimitris Papaioannou in 2009 to inaugurate the renovated Main Stage of the Greek National Theatre in Athens, the piece is in fact site specific where it can’t be performed nowhere else but here.

‘Nowhere’ is described as a project starring 26 performers that measure + mark out the space using their bodies, pitting themselves against its dimensions + technical capabilities.  They explore the nature of the theatrical stage itself, a spatial mechanism continually transformed + redefined by the human presence to denote any place, + yet designed to be a non-place.

I just can’t with how amazing this all looks as one continuos wave, so seamlessly.  How the piece ends, with the performers disappearing into the darkness is just brilliant.  Simply hypnotic!

Enjoy!
