Wake up to the beautiful fashion film ‘Holi Holy’ by designer Manish Arora + directed by Bharat Sikka.  Winner of the ASVOFF 6 Gran Prix, Best Sound, + Best Emerging Talent awards, ‘Holi Holy’, conceptualized + styled by Manish Arora, also starred the beautiful musician + contemporary artist Bishi. The film celebrates widows from Varanasi, the holiest of the seven sacred cities in Hinduism + Jainism, who broke centuries of tradition + played Holi Holy for the first time in 2013, all captured on film, covered in Holi color + Manish Arora’s vivid clothes.

I simply love the negative space in a lot of the shots, the haunting vocals  + the beautiful juxtaposition of Arora’s bright, ornate + almost regal looks, worn by Bishi, against the mostly grey landscapes.

How To Take A Dip This Fall Without Getting Wet

These ‘Dipped Crystal Earrings’ by Tom Binns, are a great way to add color to your fall wardrobe.  A marble effect, created by the mix of orange, blue + white, accentuate these silver plated earrings formed by tiered crystals.

Wouldn’t they look great with a plaid look in the same colorway?

Step Into Spring’s Tribal Trend With GACHA Embroidered Beads Kicks

For spring, lots of designers took to tribal elements as inspiration including feathers, various patterns including striped, tribal + animal, as well as fringe.  One tribal detail that occasionally gets resurrected in fashion is that of beadwork, but not quite like this.  Twins For Peace, the Parisian humanitarian organization, hooked up with the Jean-Félician GACHA Foundation for a limited edition of embroidered beads kicks collection.

What’s even better about the SS/14 ‘GACHA’ collection is proceeds from sales benefit the association, that helps preserve artisanal traditions, providing work + craft education for women.  For your very own ‘GACHA’ kicks, click here.

SIREN’s SONG By Hannes Caspar

For kALTbLuT magazine, classical pianist Jack Woodhead is beautifully captured by Berlin photographer Hannes Caspar.  Wearing CEXN, a label by Bartholomäus Wischnewski + Dana Mikelson, from the ‘SIREN’s SONG’ series + practically nothing else, Woodhead is stripped down to a form of expression complimenting the piece(s) he’s wearing, which are true works of art.  Using various materials including wire, feathers + pearls, CEXN manages to capture a romantic elegance with contemporary sensibility.

Woodhead, a performer who combines his virtuosic piano skills with singing, comedy + haute couture style looks like someone straight out of 1940s Berlin, doesn’t he?

Doesn’t he look like a young Freddy Mercury in this pic below?

Treasure Hunting With ‘dot.COMME’

image

I live for anything vintage, no matter where it comes from.  Sometimes, it might come from a junky flea market, a stoop sale in the hood, a garage sale during a random intentional visit to the suburbs or simply, a vintage shop.  And although I might not always be successful in finding a treasure amidst tons of crap, the ‘thrill of the hunt’ is what it’s all about.  Now tasteful curation doesn’t really come to mind but after a while, it does help, especially when you have a huge appetite for avant-garde designers, specifically COMME des GARÇONS.  Luckily, now there’s ‘dot.COMME‘ here to help.

The name ‘dot.COMME’ is a nod to their mode of trade (the internet) +  Rei Kawakubo’s COMME des GARÇONS.  Owners Octavius La Rosa + Holly-Rose Butler focused on the intersection of fashion + art, which is exactly what COMME is all about.  To many admirers, COMME des GARÇONS is considered wearable art.  Among archival + past-season pieces from COMME, you will also find Kawakubo’s protégé label Junya Watanabe, Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake + Belgian, Walter Van Beirendonck.  To further illustrate the genius of ‘dot.COMME’, stylist Mark Vassallo + photograph Gadir Rajab pulled some rare COMME pieces to create this genius story for Oyster magazine.  Love, love, love the graffiti on the hair – unique break from chalky hair!

Happy hunting!
