Leave It To Undercover To Make ‘Domestic’ Chic

Filled with lots of color and various silhouettes, for Undercover‘s S/S13 collection entitled ‘Domestic Affairs, designer Jun Takahashi’s approach is fun and interesting.  Primarily, the collection is full of separates in many textiles that flirt with sheen, sheerness and loose tailoring.  Then there’s that gorgeous green trench with an embroidered front that can easily be worn as a dress (last pics).

With Undercover’s bottoms – skirts, shorts + dresses – the lengths are short but hold on tight to their individuality.  For instance, the cuts of the skirts vary with the flared skirt, pink tee dress and the layered black shorts above.

The accessories are also killer, especially the sheer ankle socks and the ankle ‘french cuffs’ in both the first and second tier of pics.

Loving These Tees By Marcelo Burlon

Modeled by Marcelo Burlon himself, this collaborative capsule collection of tees with graphic designer Giorgio di Salvo, are definite conversation pieces.  A collaboration like this one with di Salvo’s talents appropriately addressing Burlon’s references of Argentinian feathers, Patagonian crosses and esoteric symbols, proves to be a true marriage of genius.

But it’s really no surprise as Burlon’s talents surpass that of most with the many titles of consultant, editor, stylist, PR, party instigator, DJ et al under his belt.  With clients like Maison Martin Margiela, Givenchy, Versace, Calvin Klein, Gucci, Prada and Jil Sander, you know this kid’s got skills.

The tees drop in December in 190 stores internationally including ARRTCO Collection in Beijing, Nag People (Copenhagen), Opening Ceremony (New York), Union, Politix, Opening Ceremony in (LA), APT 606 + Webster (Miami), Cabinet and Soto (Berlin), More Jades (Dusseldorf), FLIP + POOL (Munich), ZOZOTOWN online (Chiba), so keep an eye out.

For Fall, Louis Vuitton Accentuates With Feathers

WIth These Brooch Pins From Their AW/12 Men’s collection.

Although brooch pins have been trending for chicks for quite a while now, Louis Vuitton chose to offer something for the fellas from their AW/12 Men’s collection.  Available in the 2 colorways above, the true standout detail of these feather brooch pins is simplicity with a bit of humor.

As arrows have feathered ends, LV decided to add it’s own twist to it by creating a  a sleek silver arrow with a dangling feather from a chain.  The L + V hanging between the arrow and feather is also a nice touch-These would definitely make your jacket and sweaters stand out with minimal elegance and effort.  I love the fact how a woman can wear these too.

Currently available at Louis Vuitton stores.

Let The Sun Storm In With bimba & lola

Here’s Spanish label, bimba & lola‘s collection exploding with color, pattern, shape + volume for SS/13.

With a color palette that races across all spectrums from chambray blue to moss green to bright yellow, there’s a little bit for just about anyone.  But it’s really the many options of silhouettes + patterns that really caught my eye.

The trend of dresses over pants is still fresh for SS/13 and in the hands of Bimba & Lola, they don’t fail in claiming it as their own.  You have straight cuts like the first two looks below (top left, one with a slim fitting pant and the other, with wide legs. On the other side you have all that is sweet beautifully rendered by the lower left white number.  Although some might argue they grabbed a page from Miu Miu’s AW/12 Lookbook for some of their designs, I still think these guys offer something special – And really, don’t these looks easily transition from work to play?

Barney’s Holiday Windows Get The ‘Electrical’ Treatment Through The Magic Of Disney

Today, Barney’s unveils their famous holiday windows at their Madison Avenue flagship store and if you’ve been in New York for the holidays, the competition for best windows is pretty fierce to outdo not just others but YOUR last year’s windows.  Barney’s though, really has it’s work cut out for itself with the super success of Gaga’s Workshop last year.

This year, Barney’s teamed up with Disney to create the animated short titled “Electric Holiday.” With Minnie Mouse as the main lead, along with other Disney characters including the Cheshire Cat and Captain Hook and a list of exquisite arbiters of style and fashion including Daphne Guinness, Bryanboy, Anna dello Russo and Lady Gaga as seen below, we’re transported into Minnie’s dream of her lust for a Lanvin dress.

Looped on LED tiles that cover the two-story ground-floor facade on Madison, the short starts with Minnie dreaming of a Lanvin dress while window-shopping.  As her daydream gaze grows stronger, pushing her further into her dream, she now finds herself at the front lines of Paris Fashion Week. In her hotel suite, Minnie’s face is given the midas touch by Pat McGrath while backstage, Julien d’Ys tries to coif Cruella de Vil’s cut with her too short bangs.

While at the Tuileries, she poses for Steven Meisel, has street-style shutterbug Jurgen Teller scrambling with his many cameras trying to catch her best side while ‘paparazzo’ Mario Sorrenti snags himself a quick pic too.

My favorite part of this animated short however, is the animated versions of all the fashion folks depicted throughout, especially those seated at the infamous ‘front row’.  But before the show starts, one thing that many fashion designers would hope for is Tinker Bell flying in with her fairy dust transforming Minnie and her crew into runway models – wonder if her pixie dust would always get ALL shows to start on time for once.

Speaking of the ‘front row’, below we see a very unrealistic + ugly portrayal of Linda Evangelista with Captain Hook (pic 1), who seems to be wearing one of Karl Lagerfeld’s many facial expressions, while Emmanuelle Alt, Suzy Menkes, Franca Sozzani, SJP and Glenda Bailey (pic 2) are ‘dead on’.

Then we have Carine Roitfeld + Naomi Campbell sitting next to the Cheshire Cat, which is ironic based on Naomi’s many alleged tantrums involving throwing her cellphone at assistants, while still wearing a smile.  In the second pic, Bryanboy, Suzy Menkes + Lady Gaga never looked better.  The third pic captures Cathy Horyn’s underbite expression perfectly while sitting next to a very, very ugly version of Daphne Guinness – the only thing that incites making the connection is her hair + Gareth Pugh look.

But as much as I hate Daphne’s animated self, according to WWD, all celebs involved were required to sign off on rights to their likeness and its artistic interpretation, which meant no lording over final cut – chin, noses and waistlines would not be redrawn.

As beloved as Minnie Mouse is, I wonder if this will generate the same amount of holiday buzz as Gaga’s Workshop did?

Happy belated birthday Daphne – not only are you a true style icon, rare beauty, inspiration and humanitarian, you are, above all else, a living, breathing work of art!
