Maybe Artist Willi Dorner Has Devised A New Way To Stage Fashion Shows?

image

Well, At Least I’d Like To Think So

Austrian choreographer Willi Dorner has taken a simple notion and turned it into something really great – using people to fill-in or ‘color’ urban spaces, literally.  Yet, Doner’s imagination spares no limits to what groups of people, clad in colorful sweatpants + hoodies, can create in a matter of minutes, albeit live sculptures, a statement or simply, just art.

What’s just as interesting is how the the bodies embodiment of their own space is critical when contorting, to simulate something static or suspend motion, with no strings attached.  As for Doner, he says, ‘The intention is to show the functional urban structure + discover the possibilities of restricted movements + behavior, like the rules and limitations.’

Now tell me, don’t you think this would be a great way to start a fashion show (below), having the models walk out sideways, followed by the models facing each other then turning in tandem to face the audience?  Love, love, love.

Gucci Pre-Fall 2013 Has Us Purring For Green

Love for the Seventies + rock n’roll aside, creative director Frida Giannini decided to take a detour towards the Fifties with silhouettes worthy of Tippi Hedren in Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’ and even Angelina Jolie in ‘The Tourist’.  She further intensified her silhouettes with a color palette of teals and intense olive-forest greens (all-time color combo fave of mine yet, instead of teal, I opt for aqua/turquoise blue) occasionally anchored by leopard prints.  In describing the woman who’s envisioned wearing this collection, Frida told WWD:

‘This is a contemporary femme fatale who relishes her own dark mood.  Armed with an invulnerable aesthetic, she has an elusive sensuality-like the protagonist in a game of pursuit.’

Below you have a teal stretch flannel dress, tight enough to divulge a figure but not so much to be considered vulgar, sweetened by an off-the-shoulder neckline.   Then there’s the oversized green coat with teal cigarette pants that beautifully set the stage for this looks’ accessories of leopard bag and gloves.  The third look playfully flirts with image

proportion with a pencil skirt adorned by a fluttery front layer in green, a boxy leopard jacket with 3/4 sleeves and tight black leather opera gloves.

Love this combo at left, of a tight striped top in teal, burgundy, white + taupe with a bold olive green full skirt, finished off by pointy T-strap leopard print heels.   And those long, leopard gloves, where can I get a pair quick?

Beautiful Irony By Artist Peter Gronquist

The sudden love affair with taxidermy, that doesn’t seem to wane anytime soon, with several comical interpretations in cardboard, papier-mâché and inflatable plastic.  In steps  Portland, Oregon’s own, artist Peter Gronquist with his own versions to flip the script.  Full of cynicism and flash, his taxidermic sculptures are truly breathtaking while drenched in irony.

Who would ever think of including a firearm with a subject it might’ve or could’ve killed, especially a Gazelle who’s supposed to be super fast?  Pure genius I tell you.  Notice the gold patina of both the top and bottom pieces yet the middle piece looks more organic as the firearms have assumed the same patina as the antlers themselves.  But it doesn’t stop there.

Here’s a beautiful homage to Chanel, be that or not, of a bull full of cascading roses

dropping from the double c’s above.  Then there’s this funny little piece on the result of eating Mickey D’s (at least that’s what I’d like to think) – ouch!  Wonder if this one would tickle Georgia O’Keefe as much as it does me?

Here’s a sweet fashion film I stumbled upon inspired by an interesting thought Art Director Amaya Ducru Clouthier had about the polarity of shoes impossible to walk in and feet that cannot walk.  Entitled ‘Impossible Shoes’ by Anomalous Visuals, starring paraplegic model, artist + fashion lover Sophie Morgan, a notion most don’t ever think about – the love for shoes by someone who can’t walk – is addressed beautifully by director Melodie Roulaud with surrealistic poetry ‘that pushes the boundaries of perception and stereotypes and aims at widening the spectrum of body representation in fashion imagery.’

From 125 magazine’s interview with Sophie regarding this film, Clouthier composed a poem which Sophie herself reads as the voice over.  Love the simplicity of the environment and all the different shapes of hoops, ladders, radiators and floor boards.

Ever Think A DJ’s Bedroom Might Dictate Their Art?

Well photographer Christopher Woodcock seems to think so and why not – didn’t you ever want to know, not even a little?  With his photographic series entitled ‘DJ Bedrooms’, we get to sneak a peek at how DJs responsible for carrying us through the night with beats, high hats, loop and lots more ‘cow bell’ live, whether with or without style.

A constant of course, is the presence of lots and lots of vinyl, surprisingly today with the lack thereof of their use at many venues.  As a purist myself but as much as a tech whore as the next, vinyl to me has always been the necessity to the craft of being a deejay, yet, with the ease of technology, deejays can now afford to have a lot more tricks up their sleeves by sadly, pressing buttons + turning knobs but theatrics are always good too especially when they don’t necessarily speak and assume the role of some kind of deity or shaman casting their magic spells among us, as they transport us to another dimension, if just for one night! (Damn I miss vinyl!)

Some spots seem to have the pre-requisite musician poster of their admiration, hint of color to no color, a lot of seating, most likely for their friends, colleagues or business folk and lots of music crates filled with vinyl.  Love where the vinyl becomes part of the conversation just standing around neatly, inside little nooks until they’re nudged to speak by the needle or the cursor.

Overall, a snapshot can to a point, capture the psyche of an artist, in this case the deejay but as an artist myself, I transform and transcend my former self everyday with any new anything.  But, what I found to be the best about living with a deejay, was our smoke machine – nothing’s better than cooking in the kitchen in knee-high smoke – drama’s welcomed everywhere!
