It looks like Wednesday is going cray cray!  Now, instead of insanity being quiet, it’s now animated + evil, with plenty of curves + style, in MADLICK’s ‘Colombine’ music video.

In case you didn’t know, MADLICK, is an Acid dance crew from Berlin, featuring Jiga + Eva, that produce hauntingly cool sounds.  In their live shows, they use a drum pad, bass guitar, analog synthesizers, vocals & music toys.

Jiga, in her pigtails + super cool shades above, was born in Jerusalem + played bass for metal bands.  Wanting to be more than a bassist, she bought a $50 synthesizer + a computer + began producing on her own.  She formed the band ‘Analog Pussy’ + played all around the world.

Then there’s Eva, a cool + nerdy visual artist who exhibited worldwide from Tokyo to NYC, is a self-taught musician.  She plays a drum machine, electric guitar, uses old analog synths + her voice.  Together they formed MADLICK + together they write, produce + master their songs.

Enjoy!

‘See. Imagine. Play. Create. Go Forward,’ With Ionut Radulescu

image

Romanian designer + illustrator Ionut Radulescu’s personal motto of ‘See.  Imagine.  Play.  Create.  Go forward.’, speaks volumes on how he knows how to have fun + tap into his smallest creative cell, to produce great work.  Radulescu uses mixed media which for him, is a mix of scanned textures, watercolors + photography, with tremendous success.

image

Work with a retro feel but contemporary relevance, makes Radulescu’s POV very distinct + unique.  I particularly like his use of lettering which the designer finds to be as strong as illustration as a form of visual communication.  I must admit though, upon first glance, designer Quentin Jones’ lettering style came to mind.

image

Naming everything as influences including daily blogs, people on the streets, music + challenging moments in life, comes through his work through popular cultural references.  It’s no wonder Radulescu counts iconic fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez as one of the master illustrators, with his ability to refer to the female form, either in parts – lips + legs – or as a whole.image

A Collection That Fuses Seams Together With Heat Not Thread

image

image

Neoprene fabric has been enjoying the spotlight for quite a few seasons now but not quite like this.  You see, for Norwegian designer Zita Merényi’s new Provo-CUT Collection, heat was used to fuse the edges of grey neoprene fabric.  This in turn, gave the plastic-based material ‘scar lines’ rather than seams.image

Merényi told Dezeen, ‘This is a coat collection (row 1) where I use soldering instead of tailoring lines, which looks like scars, reflecting on the long term and temporary traces of mankind on the Planet Earth + on their own body, like scarification tattoos.’

image

‘These scar lines generate very new forms, which are plastic, sculptural, + look beautiful + strange at the same time,’ said Merényi, adding ‘I injure the textiles but then I heal up the cut holes with a paint layer’ (don’t you just love that?).

image

Besides creating raised lines across oversized jackets, another technique used was creating handmade incisions, described by Merényi as a ‘laborious but soothing process’.  The green dress actually has 8,000 incisions, demanding ’a slow workflow’ but still ‘very meditative’.

image

Smaller incisions formed  diagonal + vertical patterns across the front of two satin dresses (last image), while leaf shapes growing larger towards the hem, covered an ankle-length gown as shown below right.  I just love all the skin that is exposed yet obscured by all of the lines created by Merényi in the dress above right.

image

More detailed patterns were created by laser cutting, another technique used by Merényi.

With it’s dope beat, Diplo’s video for ’Dat A Freak’ featuring Swick, TT The Artist + Lewis Cancut is just perfect to look + listen to while getting ready + pre-gaming before heading out tonight.  Directed by Maxime Bruneel, it comes complete with the many big booties that make up part of Diplo’s universe.  Full of color + energy, you see animated chicks that really know how to werq it + twerk it.

2014 Berlin Fashion Film Festival Winner For Best Hair And Best Make-up

As an end to this week’s picks of my favorite fashion film winners from this year’s Berlin Fashion Film Festival, here’s ‘Snake’ by Gustavo Lopez Mañas.  Winner for Best Hair + Best Make-up, with GUCCI’s participation, we see the ‘snake’, played by Vinila Von Bismark, acting as narrator, cabaret style, as she sings about the blonde’s (also Vinila) despair, loss + revenge.  The best surprise of all was the guest appearance of hypnotic beauty Rossy De Palma – love her!

Here are a few of my favorite scenes from ‘Snake’:

What a crime to bury such beautiful cha cha heels!

Here’s Rossy looking divine as always.

Talk about dinner conversation being overrated!

Here’s fashion film ‘Jumper’ by Justin Anderson for Jonathan Saunders, this year’s Berlin Fashion Film Festival winner for Best Music, Best Fashion + Best Cinematography.  I’m guessing the naked guy outside is the object of everyone’s affection at the dinner table, but either way, the concept makes for an interesting feast for the eyes.

Enjoy!

I couldn’t help but think how cool this song would be as part of some fvcked up film’s soundtrack.

When I first saw this music video for Koudlam’s ‘Negative Creep’, directed by Jamie Harley, films like Gaspar Noé‘s ‘Enter The Void‘ + ‘Irreversible‘ + Jonathan Glazer’s ‘Under The Skin‘ (all MUST SEES) came to mind as perfect fits for such visuals + sound.  The words layered across the images give the video that retro yet contemporary feel.

‘Negative Creep’ is taken from the forthcoming album “Benidorm Dream” released in October 2014.

Enjoy!
