When You’re Small In Size But Big In Personality, These Are The Heels To Wear

Could you believe these were heels customized for the iconic sex symbol Mae West?

Known mostly for her sex appeal + biting wit, that included double entendres like, ‘When I’m good, I’m very good. But when I’m bad I’m better’, when standing below 5 feet tall, your brazen wit can take you so far.  Enter these ingenious shoes, created for Mae West‘s stage shows during the Fifties.  The way Mae wore these shoes was by carefully inserting her feet into the white part of the shoes, which would then be covered by extra long form-fitting dresses with flaring skirts, over her corset (reminiscent of those worn in the 1890s), exposing the silver fronts of the heels (I would imagine).  This in turn, would grant Mae almost 9 1/2 inches in height – not too bad right?

In a way, the shoes themselves could be perceived as a tangible double entendre.  But if designed today, as these shoes are such amazing creations, I doubt anyone would be covering them up.  Margiela or Kawakubo, could you please make it happen?!

Here’s a little listen to Prince’s new single, ‘Breakfast Can Wait’ featuring cray cray album cover art.  If your eyes were stinging with soap, causing them to swell with tears, you would then think you’re looking at Prince on the cover, but, it’s actually Dave Chappelle!  Inspired by the ‘True Hollywod Stories’ section of the sorely missed ‘The Chappelle Show’, where Charlie Murphy meets Prince, it doesn’t get any better.

Can’t wait to hear the whole track!

The Perfect Teapot For Couples That Still Fight Over The Remote

As if such a thing could ever exist, you can thank designer Marina Dragomirova for coming up with this one.

image

Made of porcelain, ‘Tea Time’ allows you + yours to enjoy a cup of tea when you prefer green tea + they, oolong or vice versa.  So how does it work?  With two spouts + a barrier inside to keep the two flavors separated, one of the spouts is on the axis of the handle, while the other is at 90 degrees from the first one. To serve the tea, you have to bend the teapot forward for one flavor or to the side for the other.

Talk about clever.

Kristen McMenamy Suits Up To Find ‘Love In All The Wrong Places’

image

For W’s editorial ‘Love In All The Wrong Places’, shot by Steven Klein + styled by Edward Enninful, you are transported into a world worthy of David Lynch’s irreverence.  The lighting of each shot, captures all the beauty behind model Kristen McMenamy‘s beauty, casting her as a femme fatale of sorts, in a film noir.

Although brief, it’s still pretty powerful + emotional.

Here’s a quick look at a past cover shoot for the lab magazine Issue No.7, featuring the inimitable genius that is all Marina Abramovic, the ‘Godmother of Performance Art’.

Shot by Justin Tyler Closer + styled by Michelle Carimpong, we see Marina go from donning big hair in a black jumpsuit, reminiscent of a sexy yet utilitarian vintage Halston beauty,

to a tuxedo look, accessorized with a black cropped bob

+ finally, in a cream asymmetrical COMMES des GARÇONS gown (this shot reminds me of a ‘Madonna’)

– all punctuated by the hauntingly beautiful ‘Cut The World’, sung by Antony and The Johnsons.

The whole experience just makes your heart swell with emotion.

Here’s what happened when Joseph Altuzarra collaborated with Mytheresa.com TV, on a fashion film featuring his AW 13/14 collection.  The concept, a simple one – in comes NEXT model Agne Koncuite, wearing a plush black+white fox fur coat from Altuzarra’s fall collection, accessorized with a serious look, commanding attention, with no sign of apology for her directness.  Beautifully directed by photographer-director Simon Cave, it was this simplicity that tickled his interest.

Cave told WWD, “I loved this idea of something quite strict. There was a certain strictness that we were really going for.’  There were even treadmills brought in to film the model to look as if she was walking in place.  Original music by Schwarzenegger, perfectly captured the mood (totes reminded me of the cool soundtrack for ‘Drive‘ – a must listen).
