Balenciaga’s First Campaign Is Already Off To A Great Start With Even More Talent Involved

Due to drop in a bunch of June magazines, Alexander Wang, Balenciaga‘s new creative director (as if you didn’t know already), has enlisted the genius eye of photographer Steven Klein + one of my all time favorite models, Kristen McMenamy, to perfectly capture the look + feel of his debut collection (great pairing, if you ask me).  Although Kristen’s face will not be featured, the focal point of the campaign will be the craft, detail + texture of the clothes.

And if you happen to miss buying any magazines in June, you’ll have the opportunity to see it all over the new Balenciaga women’s store at 148 Mercer Street, scheduled to open this fall (still under construction), with the Men’s shop across the street at No. 149.  Super exciting, isn’t it?!

For Spring, Jealousy Never Looked This Good

imageTake a look at the sexy yet stylishly casual ‘Dino’ SS/13 collection by ‘Jealousy’, an emerging Ukranian fashion label.  Founded in 2012, the talent behind ‘Jealousy’ is dynamic duo Sasah Stukaiskaya + Tanu Muino.  Now why is it called the ‘Dino’ collection you ask, well, if you look carefully at the patterned garments, the patterns are actually dinosaur graphics in playful repetition including the red Tyrannosauruses below.

The funny thing is, when you see these patterns on ‘display’, the red T-Rexes look like blooming red roses.

The shoes alone are super killer.  And who knew you could make stirrup pants look that good (above)?  The common thread I found throughout the collection was how although a lot of the silhouettes were either boxy, oversized or very long, their sex appeal was still intact.

Adore the long white full skirt with the light blue purse on a belt (above, look 4) – this is a look that could easily make itself right at home in the Fifties but, the shoes along with the shape of the belt bag + color, scream modern.   Speaking of which, I think the look below could easily fall prey to a modern bride-to-be, wouldn’t you agree?image

But it doesn’t end there with Jealousy – luckily for us, they also design jewelry + talk about making a bold statement.

Now available for purchase online at NJAL.

Fashion film ‘Electro Metropolis’, created by artist Jo Ratcliffe, with an electro score by DJ Brian Degraw, perfectly sets the stage for Jen Brill + Olivia Kim’s (Jen + Oli) new Cole Haan Spring capsule collection, set to drop in stores tomorrow but now available online.  Full of eye candy, the film features a modern city the artists only dream about, as Brill mentioned to Style.com, but although it slightly resembles Times Square, at least in their city, design + taste are actually taken into account.

With a diverse color palette, full of punchy color to the ever classic nude, you also have many options when it comes to heel height or lack thereof.  Hell, you can carry the flattest ones (nude) known as the ‘Mary Jane Sandal’, when tire of wearing your ‘Mary Jane Platforms.  I think they’re all super cute.

Ticket to LA: Quentin Jones on Nowness.com

For a bit of inspiration, here’s a short film by the sickly talented director + illustrator Quentin Jones, discussing with top creatives, ‘What superpowers would they like to have + why,’ brilliant inventions + what would be the title of their autobiographies’.  Each of those interviewed, took part in last month’s LA-centric Semi-Permanent event – a traveling global conference of multidisciplinary exhibits, talks, and workshops designed to foster creative thinking.

Expect to see many famous faces including  Purple magazine publisher Olivier Zahm, curator + filmmaker Aaron Rose + music vid director Floria Sigismondi. Some admissions are very funny + ironic.  Take Aaron Rose for instance, whom would love to have the power of having x-ray vision.  With this power, Rose would be able to see past someone’s surface into their private thoughts or moments, and yet, as a filmmaker, he already does this except his ‘lenses’ are a lot bigger.

When NOWNESS turns around + asks director Quentin Jones the same questions, she replies with:  superpower-a driver with a selection of shoes in boot, favorite smell-stems of tomato plants + name of autobiography-Diaries of the Accidental.

Imagine Owning A Side Table That Can Look At The Stars

Well at least that’s what the designers at Khouri Guzman Bunce Limited thought about when creating the striking ‘Frazier’ Side Table above.  With a base made of solid metal that’s screwed together rather than welded, it’s all ‘top-shelf’ after that.  You see, the glass top is not made of just ordinary glass but rather borosilicate glass used for telescope lenses + lab equipment.  But if that’s not enough, the glass is also available with a mirrored finish, creating subtle characteristic imperfections, a little bit like most of us, wouldn’t you say?

At 22.5 inches hight + 19.5 inches wide, the table is available at kgb-limited.com.

For Throwback Thursday, here’s Serge Gainsbourg singing ‘Bonnie & Clyde’, with one of his many loves, Brigitte Bardot.  Serge, an obvious lothario, had his share of famous beauties, including Jane Birkin (yes, the same Jane Birkin of the ‘Birkin’ Hermés bag), yett Bardot came first.  But Birkin was no dummy + had every right to be jealous of Bardot – I mean really, those curves, perfectly gapped teeth + seductive eyes…there was only one Brigitte Bardot.  When starring in the 1973 film, ‘Don Juan ou Si Don Juan était une Femme’, along with Bardot + Gainsbourg, Jane had this to say about the blonde bombshell –  “I wanted to see every portion of her [Bardot’s] body to see if she was as beautiful as I thought she was, and she is. Checked from head to toe by me. There’s not one fault in the woman.”

It sucks when the truth slaps you in the face, many times over + you still need proof.
