Tanks Worthy Of Keeping Around All Year Round

When many say, ‘It’s all about the details or It’s all in the details,’ these tanks definitely make the cut.  Brought to you by Cadenza boss, Swiss Chilean DJ Luciano + his crew of deejays known as the Vagabundos (Spanish for vagabond), under Cadenza music, which calls Ibiza, Spain home,  these tanks were meant to scream, ‘I want more beats + sweat’ or ‘Layer me under many of Fall’s upcoming fashions.’  Now, with summer almost bidding us adieu, you’re thinking, ‘Why would I care for a tank top with the temperature dropping so soon?’  Yet, you wouldn’t care to add either of these to your style arsenal for a couple of reasons.

Take this women’s tank called ‘Estrella Woman’ – With the words ‘Soy Como Soy’ ( Spanish for ‘Am What I Am’) emblazoned across the front, in what looks like a handwritten font, you notice the garter details, peering from below the tank.

(photo: Cadenza Music)

Alone or even under a jacket, this tank is worthy of any night out.  You might even want to pair it with an opulent if not, printed ensemble, to tone things down a bit…but really, who cares to ever do that!?

Now with this men’s tank below, called the ‘Helvio Men’, dudes can fake suspenders with the magic of tromp l’oeil and not weigh themselves down with the burden of unfastening their suspenders every time they seek comfort.

(photo: Cadenza Music)

Hey ladies, now don’t despair with the tank above being for men.  Remember, European cuts are usually a lot smaller than American mens sizes – so don’t be afraid to try one on for size.  Better yet, imagine pairing them with sweat caused by techno drenched beats or deep, dark, hard house music?  Electric Zoo anyone?

The View Is Certainly Better From Up Here

Especially In This Photographic Series Called ‘Aerial Nudes’ By John Crawford

As I am a huge sucker for negative space, upon first sight of these pics by New Zealand photographer John Crawford, I simply just smiled.  In this series called  ’Aerial Nudes’, Crawford takes an unlikely approach towards the nude model by ‘blurring’ the naked body, figuratively, and just focusing on it’s shape within the composition of the pic, with cheeky humor.

According to Crawford, his aim is to capture images that have a high degree of interest and contrast, don’t look too technical, and are easy to look at and enjoy.  So take a moment to exhale and enjoy more of John Crawford’s ‘dirty’ pictures.

Goodbye, Helen Gurley Brown

(photo: Sarti Vasalli | Getty Images

The Editrix Extraordinaire That Gave Cosmopolitan Magazine It’s Facelift, died Monday at 90.

As editor of Cosmopolitan magazine between 1965-1997, Brown the magazine reached cult status, simply by talking about sex and lots of it.  Already famous by her book ‘Sex and The Single Girl’, which could’ve acted as a  ’Letter From The Editor’ for Cosmo, described how unmarried women were having sex and loving every minute of it.  Yet, as much as this set the tone for what was to follow, another unique aspect of Cosmo single to no one, at the time, were the catchy headlines (see R pic below)

Here are two covers – L is pre-Brown and R is Brown in charge.  I prefer Brown’s cover – love graphic masthead and chosen fonts.

Now many might say she ‘pushed’ women towards the dark side by succumbing to her man’s every whim but in the end, Helen Gurley Brown’s Cosmo taught many single chicks a lot including how okay it was to masturbate and how to get what we want, all without breaking a nail.

Just remember what Brown said, ‘Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere.’

Loving this adidas Originals ‘be all in’ brand campaign, celebrating self-expression and individuality, perfectly executed showing people just having fun with abandon.  Featuring an all-star cast of Nicki Minaj, Big Sean, Sky Ferreira, Jeremy Scott, Korean pop group 2NE1, and NBA star Derrick Rose, with Nicki’s ‘Masquerade’ playing in the background, you just want to keep playing it.  Yet, adidas wants to do more than just entertain and entice you with this ad.

The ad will hopefully inspire customers enough to want to create their own videos to be submitted to a contest with prizes including autographed gear or MTV VMA tickets, via the adidas Originals’ Facebook page.

Love vid especially 2NE1, Nicki + Jeremy Scott.

Check out Lady Gaga’s commercial for ‘Fame’, her new fragrance, by the talented Steven Klein.  Not only is it visually captivating in it’s geometric excess with Gaga’s angular frock, sculptured ‘up to there’ hair and a vertical lined background shuttering between black and white.

Look at the pic below – overall, so Leigh Bowery with hints of Balenciaga meets Catwoman, in black latex, I’m guessing – Love, love, love!  The inflatable boots could probably become part of a new Olympic sport where the winner would be determined on how high they could bounce gracefully towards the finish line.

If  this fragrance ‘Fame’ claims to smell like Mother Monster’s blood + semen, in black no less, then let me have it!

Love Yourself, Literally, In Designs By Si Chan

(photo: Hill&Aubrey)

For Autumn/Winter 2012

The small men’s collection for A/W 12 by Si Chan, is full of pieces that are as interesting as they are fun, complete with interesting colorways, shapes and playful proportions.  Yet, the consistent detail throughout the collection is the presence of a series of hand movements specifically that of a hug.  Of the hug, Si Chan says (as shown above), is to ’express how the (dis) connection between people to people and the loneliness by my experience.’

(photo: Hill&Aubrey)

The more I looked at the collection, the happier it made me feel with all of it’s little nuances.  For instance, above you see the the shoes with hands on top of them and the blue gloves are worthy of any Maurice Sendak monster in ‘Where The Wild Things Are’.

(photos: Hill&Aubrey)

With this jacket below, who needs anybody with so many embraces at once?

(photos: Hill&Aubrey)

One has to admit, the bulbous nature of the hands on some of these pieces, such as those above, share a slight resemblance to that of the phalluses used by Yayoi Kusama in some of her work, like her ‘Blue Coat, 1965’ below.  (Check out her retrospective now showing at the Whitney Museum.)

(photo: Yayoi Kusama)

Or the puffy asymmetry beautifully engineered by COMME des GARÇONS including this piece from its Fall 2010 RTW collection below.

(photo: STYLE.COM)

According to Si Chan, “Hugs”, “Communication”, “Interesting”, “Fun”, “flourishing”, “a bit implication of sex”, “comfort”, “to be protected”, “to be surrounded”, ‘to cherish” “warmth”, “memory”, “happiness”, “childhood”, “lifetime”, ”Let go”, etc’, are some of the keywords which capture the main points of his collection.  Repetition is also a common theme throughout such as sleeves, providing the wearer with more comfort of ‘feeling full and not alone’, says Chan.

One can’t help but feel loved in these pieces, which, by all accounts, sparks memory of a child’s toy with the plush soft hands, like the coat below

(photo: Hill&Aubrey)

which loosely reminded me of the Campana Brothers‘ Teddy Bear Chair below

(photo: NYT)

or one of Nick Cave‘s ‘Soundsuits’ as seen here.

(photo: BULLETT)

Overall, Chan asks, ‘Everybody needs love, Don’t you?’, and nothing expresses this best as the suit below, covering all bases, wink, wink.

It just got hotter in here thanks to Azealia Banks featured in T by Alexander Wang‘s latest ad campaign.  You just want to get up and bounce seeing Azealia jump cut through empty T’s as she’s cropped left and right, focusing on her moves with dizzying effect.

With Dazed & Confused‘s Christopher Simmonds in charge of art direction and the vid set to Banks’ single “Van Vogue”, there was no denying it would be this good.  Yet, Alexander Wang always knows how to advertise – remember his ad campaign featuring Die Anterwood ? – Sick!

Tee Up For Charity With Matches’ Designer T-Shirt Collection

With the world being all abuzz about London with the Olympics and all, Matches, the luxe online retailer, celebrates London 2012 a little differently.  Matches has enlisted the help of several top Brit designers including Mary Katrantzou and Roksanda Illnicic, to create this limited edition tee shirt collection, granting everyone the joy of adding a dash of designer to their arsenal of everyday looks.

(photo: Matches)

And guys, don’t worry, Matches doesn’t ignore you completely, offering you at least three of the several tee designs available, as seen below.

(photo: Matches)

Love Roksanda’s cute little top below which takes the tee design to another level.

(photo: Matches)

The only one in the collection to use color blocking, a bit of flair is added to the waist by adding a slightly loose peplum making this tee less than ordinary.

Now, you may think, ‘Mary Katrantzou for just £60 each – That’s It? ’ as being the best part of this collection, but in fact, there’s a bit more to it – All of the sale proceeds go to The Dispossessed Fund, a charity for battling poverty in London.

Available online and at all Matches locations.
