For #FlashbackFriday, here’s ‘Voguing Train’ by Kemar Jewel featuring Legendary Champagne Icon werqing it underground.  Crazy how this video shows dancers voguing in an underground subway station, a form of dance that originated in the underground culture.  It would be so cool to experience performance art like this in New York.

Just remember, ‘Please Watch For The Closing Doors!’

3D Printing + Grid Patterns Create The Hard Copy Collection

image

image

3D printing continues to push the fashion envelope so it’s no surprise it could create such beautiful ruffled clothing influenced by distorted grid patterns.  One designer who took the reigns of such an idea is Israeli designer Noa Raviv with her ‘Hard Copy Collection’ shown here.  Printed + stitched lines + grids were applied onto fabrics to evoke images of corrupted 3D drawings, made using computer modelling software.

image

Grid-like patterns are warped + stretched across parts of the garments to create optical illusions across the body.  But to create the feeling of floating swirls around the body + making that 3D effect really pop, tulle + silk organza fabrics were chosen, in black, white + sheer tones.  These fabrics were then layered, ruffled + pleated into voluminous shapes, sometimes edged in bright orange, for that burst of color.  ’I chose the materials that had the most innovative look + the ones that I thought would best fit,’ Raviv explained to dezeen.

#FarrOut Patterns Perfect For Fall

image

Today, artist + Juxtapoz contributor Kristin Farr, just launched a line of wearable gear that highlights her geometric rainbow neo-folk art + psychedelic paintings + patterns.  Farr’s line includes patterned tees, leggings, laptop sleeves + backpacks.  image

To set you aside from anyone at school to the conference room, these laptop sleeves above will definitely do that, if not bring a smile to your new admirers.  The tees are a great way to add just enough color to your Fall wardrobe over a furry sweater or even a long sleeved mod style dress with a moto jacket.

image

For the more daring, Kristen’s leggings definitely hit all the right marks.  If pattern play is your game, imagine wearing them under a differently patterned dress or even paired with a metallic look.  But if the tees are still a bit much for the shy, try one of these backpacks.  Just imagine wearing a patchwork shearling coat, with one of these backpacks behind you?  I think they would also look great with an obnoxiously big fur coat.

For your very own original wearable piece by Kristen Farr, they are available for purchase at rare.skyou.com.

My favorite, by far, is the first tee called the ‘Magic Eyes’ tee with a woman wearing her diamond patterned eye frames.

But if you still need to get more of a Farr Out experience, why not try her free #FarrOut app.  You can download the App at the itunes store here: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id648018062

Two Way Reversible Sunglasses For The Indecisive

image

Clever + cost efficient is what comes to mind when I think about these Two Way Reversible Sunglasses by Norwegian fashion brand HAiK + eyewear company Kaibosh.  Their collaboration gave birth to this collection of sunglasses that can be worn in two ways as demonstrated in the movie above.

image

With their special hinge that allows the arms, technically known as temples, to flip around 180 degrees back + forth, the wearer can then choose which frame they’re in the mood for.  Since the temples are both flat + symmetrical, they fit over the ears both ways.

image

If that isn’t enough, these limited edition shades are available with round or rectangular tinted lenses in five color pairings at kaibosh.com or in selected stores.

Tattoo Artist To Marc Jacobs Launches Limited Edition Wine For Free Arts NYC

image

Scott Campbell, tattoo artist to many celebrities including Marc Jacobs, can now add wine maker to his resume.   Scott has released a limited-edition box set of ‘Saved Wines’ to benefit the arts education charity Free Arts NYC.  Free Arts NYC, comprised of about 500 artists + collectors, provides underserved children + families with a unique combination of educational arts + mentoring programs, annual auctions + outreach activities that help them to foster the self-confidence + resilience needed to realize their fullest potential.  Now, this isn’t Campbell’s first involvement with Free Arts – back in May, he created a collaborative ‘karmic mentorship’ inspired by the permanence of tattoos, as part of the arts org initiative.

Created by both Campbell +  California winemaker Clay Brock, 100 black lacquer boxes adorned with original artwork by Campbell that depict characters + symbols rooted in various superstitious symbols that are not just prevalent in tattoo artistry, but also represent the artist’s belief in the power of symbolism + the ability of willpower to set positive well-being in motion, will contain a limited edition set of ‘Saved Wines’.  In fact, with each set dedicated to Scott’s desire to improve youth access to arts education, in this case Free Arts NYC, along with symbols of optimism, is a winning karmic equation.

Each box will contain a 750-mL Saved Red Wine 2012 — a robust, rich wine with ripe berry flavors from Merlot, Malbec, Syrah + Zinfandel + one Saved “Magic Maker” Rosé 2013 – a bone dry rosé made from a Cabernet Franc-dominant blend of red varietals with notes of cantaloupe + guava.

Available for $100 via www.savedwines.com, each set is dedicated to Scott’s desire to improve youth access to arts education, + what a sexy set it is!

Imogen Heap: Entanglement on Nowness.com

There’s nothing better than hanging around naked in bed with someone special between the sheets, especially all white ones, like in this video for Imogen Heap’s ‘Entanglement’, with a track that perfectly captures this moment.  According to NOWNESS, ‘Entanglement’  was originally written for the ‘Twilight’ film ‘Breaking Dawn’, but not worth the bite, prompting the track to stand out as a relatively simple composition on Heap’s long-awaited concept album, ‘Sparks’.

Of the track Heap confides, ‘This track is different from any of the rest of them because it’s recorded in the old fashioned way.  It was nice to draw on my own experience and go in.’

‘Sparks’ drops Monday August 18.

Enjoy!

It’s Showtime Everybody, Everybody Clap Your Hands!

image

For his ‘Showtime’ series, fashion photographer Sam Nixon focuses his lens on the guerrilla dance crews breathing new life into New York’s subway system.  It’s mind blowing how these dancers manage to measure their proxemics between seated + standing commuters to their props in the form of poles + overhead bars in a blink!

image

image

What makes these pictures more than amazing, is their blood red hue which Nixon explains to Dazed, ‘It’s the colour of Mars – domineering, urgent + powerful. It demands attention + commandeers the senses’.  Crazy how the coloring of these pictures makes them look both retro + contemporary, simultaneously.

image

image

image

‘They’re really athletes’, Nixon explains, ‘They’ve learned to use the train as an extension of their bodies. They’ve got the exact dimensions of every pole, every handrail on the train + off. They know every platform, every line + they know which spots have vital power adapters to charge their boom boxes’.  Now THAT’S being resourceful.

image

image

image

The best part of it all, for as much as many commuters would rather do without any of these surprise performances, these talented teen crews perform up to 20 sets an hour, bringing in $150 daily – not a bad for a career, if you ask me.

image

image

‘I’m immensely thankful that the performers pulled me along for the ride + let me into their intimate sphere’ Nixon says, adding, ‘And I’m glad that I was able to display their world in an alternative light’, + so are we Sam, so are we!  Thank you!
