Artist + photographer Andres Serrano has been known for creating works of provocation, including using bodily fluids in them.  One notable controversial + scandalous work was the artist’s 1987 ‘Piss Christ’.  Not only was ‘Piss Christ’ a photograph of a plastic crucifix submerged in a glass container of Serrano’s own urine, it received government funding which ignited a national scandal.  Yet, beauty CAN exist in the oddest of places, a notion Altamont Apparel also shares + brings to life through a collaborative project with Serrano.

This collaboration consists of black t-shirts with four images chosen from the archives of Serrano’s work that they felt will create a motion in not only the design world, but with artists alike.  The images include ‘The Morgue’, ‘America’, ‘Baby Black Jesus’ + the infamous, ‘Piss Christ’ (below).

Talk about making a statement by wearing a simple black t-shirt, exhibiting a piece of art + history, from one of America’s greatest provocateurs + brilliant photographic talents!

You can purchase an Andres Serrano for Altamont t-shirt at Altamont Apparel.

Just yesterday, Dame Vivienne Westwood launched a capsule collection of evening gowns with Matchesfashion.com, which included the Squiggle pattern from her AW/1981 ‘Pirate’ collection.  Now, to celebrate The Cambridge Satchel‘s five year anniversary, Westwood’s collaborated on a capsule collection which will also incorporate ‘Pirate’ details.

Pirate pale tan straps + buckles will accentuate the Squiggle pattern on Westwood’s ‘Squiggle Satchels’.  Available in two sizes, the ‘Squiggle Satchel’ will come in three colourways: yellow + black, white + red, + brown + black.  The limited edition satchels will be available at Vivienne Westwood stores + online on Oct. 14, so mark your calendars + treat yourself to an early holiday present.

If I had to pick, I’d go for the yellow + black, but, they’re all pretty great.

And how apropos to have chosen model Daisy Lowe for this project?  Daisy, a model known for her sensuality + sex appeal, falls right in line with the feel of Vivienne’s hourglass hugging forms.  Yet, destiny played a role here too as Daisy told Matchesfashion.com, ‘I started getting into fashion because of Vivienne Westwood.  My mum was such a massive fan + would always go and buy lots of things. I wasn’t really that interested in fashion until one day she came home with lots of big bags full of Vivienne Westwood clothes. Her dresses felt like playgrounds to me; you had to work out how to get in + out of them, + what tied where. That was my real introduction to fashion, really, ’ + who doesn’t love playgrounds?!

On style, Dame Westwood told Matchesfashion.com, ‘My clothes allow you to project your personality. They are quite theatrical in the sense that they are real clothes, well designed, + they give you a chance to express yourself,’ which is just what this collection will accomplish for die-hard Westwood fans while gaining new ones.  The Westwood design team told Vogue UK that they were more than pleased to partner with Matchesfashion.com for this collection, since they chose some beautiful existing styles from their archive + allowed them to introduce new silhouettes to their customers. “The collection is really classic + elegant, as it incorporates the best of Vivienne’s designs then + now,’ added the Westwood design team.
