Atelier Kikala highlights one of my favorite trends of the season – sheer accents. Part of the SS/2015 collection, according to the brand, it is ‘inspired by nature, with each piece perceived as a new object of desire + a new concept of luxury. The modern world becomes more industrialized; there is a struggle for survival. Desire to replace resources that expire, is now normal for the human, + the way of life that was written in science fiction books is already here,…’
Like all of its pieces, the Geometric Dress above is handmade. Bold, black + blue whole + half circles, piled on top one another, decorate a sheer panel of blue.
This Handmade White Dress, with embroidery inspired by the flora + fauna of the ocean, beauty + serenity is recreated. Laying on top of a sheer white shift dress, more fragility is accomplished by placing it under a longer sheer column dress. The designer says, ‘White leaves remind us water plants at the ocean.’
And what’s not to love about this Handmade Skirt, made of light pink fabric + white netting? Nothing beats versatility with a piece like this, which would look great with either heels or kicks!
*Before I continue, I would just like to apologize for being MIA for the past few days – having the flu is no party + neither is reading forced content.
There’s no denying I love tattoos, so when I came across Vivetta’s ‘Pink Cotton Tattoo Collar’, I thought this is a ‘must have’ for anyone’s Spring wardrobe. Featuring a set of hands that look like they’re tying a ribbon, you would have to think the owner of such hands is a bad ass!
Besides the black nail polish, the ink on these hands includes dripping roses, lightning bolts, hearts + diamond sparkle shapes. The tattoos could almost pass for traditional American.
Although it looks cute with the dress above, I personally would wear it as a necklace with a sporty crisp white tank or something strapless, but to really make it pop, I would also consider wearing it with a pant suit + just have the pinching fingers peeking through. Of course, the fact that this piece works for both day + night is a major plus.
This Monday, March 23, Uniqlo’s collaboration with iconic Japanese film + theater company Shochiku Co. Lt + renown Kabuki Actor Ichikawa Ennosuke IV as Project Ambassador, under the creative direction of NIGO, will be dropping their Kabuki influenced men’s + women’s collection of clothing + accessories in the U.S.
Of course, with NIGO in charge, the Kabuki theater culture references, including the high drama of bright elaborate makeup + costumes, are anything but literal. The collection shares the traditional esthetic of this art form similar to traditional woodblock prints, calligraphy + graphic patterns, but, with a contemporary edge, like the tee with the Kabuki mask above, resembling a Rorschach inkblot + below, a digital print of the front of the kimono to its left.
So don’t forget to check out the collection online or in person on Monday.
Lance Loud is described by friend Christopher Makos assomeone that felt life, not looking too far into the past + not staring too far
into the future, but loving the moment.
‘That was Lance.’ In ‘Lance
Out Loud’, by Pat Loud, Edited by Christopher Makos, published by Glitterati
Incorporated, you get to know Lance as closely as his mom Pat Loud + famous
friends, including Andy Warhol + Rufus Wainwright did, through this entertainingly
beautiful + heartfelt intimate portrait of America’s first reality TV Star +
gay icon.
In 1973, the airing of PBS’s groundbreaking reality TV show, ‘An
American Family’, sparked Lance’s road to stardom.
A series comprised of twelve episodes, put the Loud family under the
microscope over the span of two years, during which Lance, the oldest son, came
out as gay.
Now,
although Lance’s sexual orientation was the cause of national controversy +
media scrutiny, Lance relished the limelight. Friend Rufus Wainwright said, ‘According to Lance the
greatest sin in the world was to be a bore,’ + here he was, in America’s homes
on PBS, showing everyone a glimmer of how greatness came to be + what kind of
family nurtures it.
With a book such as
this, containing photographs, publicity material, + clippings field-related to
‘An American Family’, personal papers, writings, + some correspondence, you
really get to feel like you’re part of one of Lance’s many admirers, which was
anyone who met him. You really get
a sense of the Lance everyone knew + loved, through the ‘huge bite he took out
of life’ visible through his gorgeous eyes staring back at you, from the many
photographs inside.
Considered to
be a brilliant writer, friend Kristian Hoffman said, ‘ Lance lived + spoke writing
in real time, like a taste meant to be savored in one course, + then balanced
with altogether new flavors in the the next,’ adding ‘In the same way that
Lance was the destination, Lance’s greatest writing was the now.’
His mom Pat Loud
mentions how Lance’s wit + his engaging charm drew people to him. She said, ‘He was also highly
opinionated, not always right + possessed a huge vocabulary. But if there wasn’t a word for something
he’d make one up. He once told me
that he hoped I wouldn’t become “hagular” in my old age.’ One photograph that really made me
smile, highlighting his wit, whether subconscious or not, is one of the Duchess
of Windsor, that was used as note paper, with a bunch of writing on top of it.
Overall,
Lance Loud was the kind of person one wishes they are or they become, a walking
cliché for ‘sucking out all the marrow of life’! ‘Lance Out Loud’, by Pat Loud, Edited by Christopher
Makos, published by Glitterati Incorporated, is available for purchase at http://glitteratiincorporated.com.
When it comes to taking a flight, most people would rather watch paint dry instead of listening to a mad boring in-flight safety announcement. But not YouTuber YouBee. You see, YouBee sampled the whole thing then loaded it into Fruity Loops, resulting in this banger with Aussie sounding vocals. It’s so good, I could easily hear it playing at any EDM festival, gaining commercial success like ‘Eat. Sleep. Rave. Repeat.’, with anthem-worthy proportions!
Now if only YouBee could do the same for that annoying Mister Softee truck tune, just in time for Summer – it’s overdue for a remix, don’t you think?!
For their SS/15 season, MUUSE has fallen in love with pattern play, specifically five patterns. But MUUSE is so loving, it shows its love six different ways, in the form of dresses, tops, bottoms + one accessory, thanks to designers LOUISE KÖRNER, ELIAS HÖGBERG + HUANG TING-YUN.
There are three types of dresses – a full-skirted mini dress, a sleeveless mini dress + a stretch to the knee + a below the knee t-shirt dress; Five types of tops – a stretch + cropped t-shirt, a long sleeve + short sleeve button down shirt + a long sleeve crewneck pullover. Bottoms come in seven varieties – a faux wrap + bermuda short, a knee length, a pencil + mini skirt, a straight leg trouser + a pull-on track pant. Then you have a scarf as the lone accessory.
Niagara’s latest video for ‘Else’ is a mix of two of my loves, digital art + experimental pop. The video features a sick heavy synth track + many different special effects created by over twenty animators, resulting in an intense experience. With special effects including something as mundane as brushing your teeth celebrated in vibrant color + jellyfish swimming in the sky, words alone can’t truly describe – you just need to watch + digest it for yourself, but what a ride!
‘ELSE’ comes from the band’s recent ‘Don’t Take It Personally’ LP, + more recently the ‘ELSE’ EP set to drop April 14.
Check out this gorgeous editorial for Kaltblut magazine entitled ‘Girl Awakened’ by Marisa Pike. Featuring the beautiful makeup artist Mynxii White as the model, with her sexy lavender haired pin-up look in a powder blue boudoir setting, wearing TikiGlam + Christian Louboutin, you get the perfect balance of old + new. The juxtaposition of soft + hard is also present with the softness of the environment, setting the stage, for the sculptural hair (created by Tony Medina) + wardrobe.
I must point out the pic of the model’s legs, showing off her garter + ripped stockings (pic 4), as one of my favorites, which reminds me a lot of Guy Bourdin.
