EFG: Singing Bridges on Nowness.com

Growing up, my Dad often tortured me with watching Westerns, but had they looked like this version by Sam Bells for Los Angeles psych-rock group EFG, I would’ve put them on repeat!  ’EFG: Singing Bridges’, is described by Falls as a Western on acid + rightfully so.  You can’t help but be mesmerized by the glitched-out surreal Western dreamscapes with cult classics ’The Good, the Bad + the Ugly’, ‘How the West Was Won’, + ‘Hang ‘Em High’.

Clint Eastwood never looked better!

Enjoy!

Michael McCollom’s Proof Black Style Then Continues To Inspire Style And Fashion At Large Today

image

For many, style is often confused with what designer label they’re wearing + how impressive that makes them look to others, but in truth, style is something very personal that you either have or you don’t.  In ‘The Way We Wore: Black Style Then’ by Michael McCollom, published by Glitterati Incorporated, you get to see the different facets of Black style + the changes it has undergone throughout the 20th century, with a twist.

image

Besides the title’s clever play on words with Striesand’s ‘The Way We Were’, designer + photographer Michael McCollum took pictures of family + friends the really showcased their own sense of style, giving it that yearbook feel.  But what’s particularly great about Michael’s photo collection is the mix of both the best + worst style moments dating back to the Harlem Renaissance into the age of hip hop.

image

Each image represents a snapshot of fashions that may have started in the African-American community, which eventually made an impact on international fashion.  Elaborate hairstyles, chunky eyeglasses + plenty of patterns are just a few of the elements featured + sure to entertain in McCollum’s brilliant study of African-American history through fashion + style.

Fencing Unis Inspire Cool And Easy Pieces For Summer

image

For Summer, Hungarian designer Anna Daubner gets inspired + reimagines the fencing uniform into perfect light + airy looks..  For her Summer capsule collection, the concept of materials + cuts was built on that of fencing uniforms: the surface of luxe sport fabrics, the simplicity of the cuts + the purity of white. image

Using the simplicity of cuts often found in uniforms + in sportswear, it appears as Daubner looked to iridescent sheer insets of holographic cellophane fabric to give it that futuristic edge with an ethereal appeal which explains the inspiration behind the color theme – the movements of the sun + the sky, by the lights, shades + layers.

Other fabrics used in the collection are cotton, mesh sport lining + silk.

Anna Daubner’s pieces can be purchased at Not Just A Label.

Victoria+Jean: Divine Love on Nowness.com

Get inspired to romance the tragedy of love with Anita Fontaine’s film for Victoria + Jean’s latest release ‘Divine Love’.  Drawing inspiration from science fiction films from the 70s + dating shows from the 80s, with both having these kind of fake sets that look like they are falling apart, as described by Fontaine to NOWNESS, the film follows the romantic conquests of a budgie called Smokey + its owner Lulu.  And this film could not be anymore perfect to visualize the intensity of emotion coming through the vocals of avant-pop duo Victoria+Jean.

Victoria + Jean tell NOWNESS, ‘Everyone deals with love’s intensity in their own way—seeing Smokey vulnerable in her defeat reflects how slavish we are to our emotions.’

Described by Fontaine as ‘a soap opera from another dimension’, this film with it’s colors, patterns, lighting, sets + costumes would definitely convince me to get my heart broken more often, just to have it look + play out exactly like this.

Enjoy!

FKA twigs’ voice, as usual, just cradles you with her smooth delivery, full of cool + sexy ease, paired with a sick track.  Directed by Nabil, here’s her new video for her new song ‘Two Weeks’, where she plays a goddess of sorts, surrounded by a court of gold dancers + men waiting in the wings, which if you look closely, are all FKA twigs.

I love, love, love her unique POV, talent + consistency.

Enjoy!
