Norma Kamali Designs Ensembles For Her ‘Olympic Sport’ Exclusively For OC

With the buzz surrounding the opening of Opening Ceremony London, to commemorate the event, OC asked a few of their designer friends to create looks for their very own  Olympic Sport.  Watch here on how Norma Kamali’s Olympic sport is running in heels in a pencil skirt. ( Does she ever age?  Gorgeous!)

Within the 10-piece capsule collection and no pencil skirt in sight, let’s imagine what Norma’s creations could work for other than ‘running in heels’.  Take this dress for instance – perfect for opening ceremony festivities for swimmers sans lit torch.

The swimsuits below add enough fun for any Olympian, in + outside of the pool by switching up the order of the textiles (lamé  + stripes).

For breakfast, brunch, drinks or whatever, you can throw on this silver asymmetric skirt for the right amount of pop showing off your killer legs you slaved over all winter to get or legs you strategically accentuated by the touch of your personal spray tan technician.

If jeans, leggings / shorts are no longer your choice of bottoms, what about these fringed pants sure to spark conversation.  Totally look like black oil poured onto the model’s legs if not, painted latex and something Anne Hathaway’s / Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman would wear.

What if you’re a bit chilly but can’t commit to layering just yet, here are too cool alternatives – a silver fitted jean-style jacket and a bright yellow vest.

Supposing, there’s just too much to do about town and you really don’t care about brushing that ‘nest’ you call hair?  Well just throw on this adorable turban and you’re set to walk the streets with pride, even if it’s your ‘walk of shame’ for the third time that week.

The Olympics, known as the platform to exhibit the world’s best athletes committed to excellence, strength and skill, it’s obvy they all have great bodies.  So what to wear when you’re ‘off duty’?  Well, one of these Norma frocks to show it all off of course.

Available at Opening Ceremony London and online for purchase.

Loving this A/W12 film campaign for Alexander McQueen shot by David Sims – very ‘Enter The Void’, a must see flick by Gaspar Noe starring Nathaniel Brown and Paz de la Huerta!  Like this film, Sims takes us on a journey full of neon psychedelia complete with chrome-like wraparound shades, pixelated ensembles, glowing geometric shapes along with the bad-ass attitude worn by model Suvi Kuponen set ablaze with strobe light intensity.

Get hypnotized again with Bat For Lashes’ music vid above for ‘Laura’, the first single available, off their new album ‘The Haunted Man’, due to drop Oct 15.  As usual, the sultry vocals command close attention with the powerful control of emotion dripping from every word sung.  Loving the album art too which like the voice, is raw and honest and looks like a throwback to the Seventies.  Yet, who can deny the genius and beauty of it all when shot by the talented Ryan McGinley.

New album is available for pre-order now on iTunes + receive ‘Laura’ track as an instant download.

Hauntingly beautiful track!

Warning: The Following Crazy Cuts Might Incite Mass Indecision On Where To Buzz Off Your Hair First

What a way to visually convey an 80s punk hair story on girls with attitude and all thanks to Dazed & Confused executive fashion editor Cathy Edwards with hairstylist Peter Gray (and his team).

(photo: Fumi Nagasaka)

Through the magic of a casting call and the keen eye of Dazed Digital, Edwards simply drew inspiration from old punk hairdressing postcards found at a car boot sale about 10 years ago. Edwards added, ‘I’ve had them on my wall for all that time and finally decided to show them to a hairdresser and use them as a starting point to create some very extreme ‘hair art’.’  In my eyes, this ‘hair art’ is high art at it’s best taking such a versatile canvas and creating hair geometry with a complimentary color palette that not only conveys attitude but unapologetic beauty.

But Peter Gray’s expertise along with his team deserves all the accolades for creating such beauty other than the overdone look of one side shaved and other not, unless you’re Michelle Harper, whom in my eyes, could do no wrong.

‘Patterns Of Science’ Seems Patterned After Contemporary Avant-Garde Fashion

When I stumbled upon the work of Ian Anderson Hall, many contemporary designs came to mind that have achieved the same effect if not, a slight nod to it.   by promoting intercultural understanding  through the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) .  It is this notion that bounds the pieces together as Hall views fashion patterns similar to those in human genetics.  By enshrouding the model in fashion patterns from head to toe, the models all share the same body and emotions of everyone else.  Using vintage catalog pics for this is definitely a great touch.

What’s funny though, is how this reminded me so much of COMMES des GARÇONS Rose Print Couture dress fall 2012 as seen below.

What’s crazy is how the images look so contemporary, especially the dress styles and choice of patterns for each look.

These patterns scream mui mui on jackets with matching tights or dresses with matching skinny pants.

As for additional contemporaries embracing the fashion patterns head to toe look,

there’s knitwear label Sibling, created by Sid Bryan, Joe Bates and Cozette McCreery.

And who can forget Lady Gaga at the 2009 VMAs wearing a red lace Alexander McQueen couture dress from his Fall 1998 collection?

Yet the best one of them all, which definitely influenced Lady Gaga is Australian performance artist, Leigh Bowery.  Here was an artist that never knew when to say enough

and yet, he made excess look sophisticated, unique, fun and with and overwhelmingly use of fashion patterns and textures

Tricking Your Eyes Will Surely Cool Your Summer Feet

Especially When Wearing Brogues Like These.

With espadrilles being extra popular (not that they ever lost their appeal), B Sided and The String Republic have taken more of a dadaist approach to that style of shoe.  By using a tromp l’oeil effect,

(tricking the eye) for those of you unlikely to surrender your favorite brogues or creepers –  very heavy and quite claustrophobic for your feet in this nasty summer heat – you can try swapping them for either of the styles above.  At a glance, they do look like the real thing until closer observation reveals, voilà, their espadrille stitched bottom.

What about kicks though?  Sure there are plenty of styles to choose from that through the wonders of technology, manage to be light as a feather, complete with breathable fabric but nothing quite like these – sure attention grabbers.

You can opt to go the classic route, with this replica of the adidas Stan Smith

or you can take a more colorful route with these other faux kicks.

Either way, you’ll fool all onlookers, be comfortable AND look cute!
