Robert Kalinkin‘s slogan of ‘Make A Statement’ could never have been more obvious than in this fashion film which praises body modification in many ways, making a statement as loud as possible.  You have several diamond shapes running up the model’s arms, torso + back, followed by raised lines along her hairline down around her left eye.  You then have the model’s feather tattoo replicated from her left bicep, moving onto the side of her torso.  But lets not forget the sexy leather pants, with an all over stitched diamond pattern, being caressed by black leather gloves embellished by different sized pearl beads.

Enjoy!

How To Carry In The Future

image

Konstantin Kofta‘s ‘Inertia’ + ‘Platonic Solids’ bag collections of futuristic bags, look like austere sculptures able to take shape into something else.  With geometric lines + frozen movement in time, the ‘Inertia’ collection deals with how inert matter is full of motion when we look closely at it, with the activity of matter as essence + geometry as a construct of the intellect.  The ‘Platonic Solids’ collection, is based on five perfect 3-dimensional forms, collectively known as The Platonic Solids.  Driven by Marcel Proust’s quote of, ‘The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but seeing with new eyes,’ new lands or forms are attained thanks to Kofta’s designs.

WANTED: Pleated Shoulder Trench Coat By Judy Wu

image

image

Judy Wu’s ‘Pleated Shoulder Trench Coat’ from her SS/15 collection, is a true classic that lifts the weight of your shoulders with pleated detail.  Wu’ s modern take on a British classic specifically, embraces a great balance between masculinity + femininity.  With perfect tailoring, 3D pleated textured details + structured shoulders, this trench could easily become a wardrobe staple + a true investment for years to come.

image

Proud to be part of ‘Branded Heritage’ by raising awareness for British fashion, Jason Wu’s SS/15 collection was inspired by Rio de Janeiro’s ‘Jardim Botânico’ which celebrates nature with some of the most beautiful types of plant-life + flowers from around the world.  And how could you not love Wu, with her using pleating as a way to replicate a leaf’s specially designed structure?!

The ‘Pleated Shoulder Trench Coat’ is available for purchase at Wowcracy.

Wake up to That Work’s feel good video for ‘It’s Like A Dream’.  Comprised of a mash-up of various people experiencing different aspects of life but at a pace + in an order similar to how some dreams play out, this video with this song could not be more perfect.  Made up of core members Harry McNally + Kosuke Kasza, who’ve been working since 2012, I’d have to agree with Purple magazine in saying that NY’s That Work takes us to the dance floor with this track.  It kind of feel’s like something you’d hear right before the cusp of a deejay’s set’s peak if not, it could be easily heard at an after hours spot, full of eccentric characters around 11am.

Now when the video gets to 1:41 beware, you might want to get up + dance.

Enjoy!

The ‘Shiva Vase’ Has A Golden Moment Not To Be Missed

image

image

How gorgeous is this ceramic ‘Shiva Vase’, shaped like hmmm, I don’t know, an erect penis?  If you didn’t guess that then you really need to get out more.  The 23-centimetre-tall pink-glazed ceramic vase (below) was originally designed in 1973 by the iconic Ettore Sottsass for the BD Barcelona company, with an opening in the top for displaying flowers + balanced by two low rounded elements on either side

image

Two years before Sottsass’ death in 2005, a prototype version of the vase was created with a gold finish as a reward for an international student design competition which sparked this golden opportunity.  Sadly, only 50 numbered limited copies will be made.

Although BD Barcelona company’s general manager Jordi Arnau told dezeen ‘the only explanation that our partners + founders give (laughing) is that at that time he was really in love with a girlfriend in Barcelona that he visited frequently’ as the reason behind the shape.  However, the 1973 Shiva Vase shape was in fact named after the Hindu god responsible for the destruction of the universe to pave way for its regeneration, who is often represented by a phallic object called a lingam – following Sottsass’ visits to India + appeared in BD Barcelona’s first catalogue.

‘Conjoined Illusion’ Shoe Collection

image

There’s no denying that most women adore shoes.  Sure, some might collect them just for the label, but then there are those like me, who can look at a shoe as a piece of wearable sculpture.  Yet who am I kidding, some labels are to be coveted.  Inspired by mirroring, reflection + conjoined twins, the ‘Conjoined Illusion’ shoe collection’s leather + platform are handcrafted by designer Carolin Holzhuber in London.

Just look at them – could you even bear dirtying the sole?  Then again, as soon as you put these shoes on, they are meant to assault the passersby gaze + leave them in awe!

You can purchase your very own pair at Not Just A Label.image

A Paper Trail Worth Wearing

image

image

Dylanlex came to mind when I first saw these folkloric Mongolian costumes made entirely out of paper by artist Asya Kozina.  Based on the shapes + textures created, you would think they’re 3D printed masterpieces but instead, I think the Cricut (a Cricut is a personal DIY electronic craft cutting machine that cuts vinyl, paper, fabric + more) would be guilty here.  Then again, Kozina is just very intuitive on knowing how to make paper do what she wants it to do – Some might even call these wearable sculptures.

image

I love a lot of the soft details including feathers, petals or beads.  Then you have bigger + more rigid accents like shoulder pads + headdresses, balancing out the complete look.image

And why Dylanlex?  Well, like a lot of Dylanlex’s sick necklaces, these costumes look like they’re built layer by layer, using pieces from different places, until it all makes sense.

How Jewelry Designer Annelise Michelson Helps Vegans Eat Meat Without Guilt

image

image

Of course, jewelry designer Annelise Michelson would do this with her ‘Gold Carnivore Choker’.  Featuring a graphic zigzag cutout at the center that goes all the way around, not only does that turn it into a statement piece, but it does so with a bite of humor (couldn’t resist!).

image

It’s obvious this piece would look great paired with something strapless but I also think it could look as amazing over a turtleneck sweater.  Great accessory to that upcoming holiday office party you’re dreading – it’ll definitely discourage any of those co-workers you avoid daily to approach you at all!

You can purchase your very own ‘Gold Carnivore Choker’ at Avenue32.
